Position Summary
The Data Collection Abstracting Supervisor oversees the abstracting staff within the Data Collection Unit (DCU). The Data Collection Abstracting Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily abstracting activities within the DCU and adjusting workflows and procedures as needed to ensure timely abstracting of incoming reports of new cancer cases. This position collaborates with other Data Collection Supervisors and the Data Collection Manager within the DCU, thus working as part of a leadership team and providing cross-coverage when needed. The Data Collection Abstracting Supervisor also assists Cancer Registry of Greater California (CRGC) special projects, including regional and statewide projects as needed.
This is a regular full-time position located in Sacramento, CA. This position may allow for remote work and is expected to work during core business hours for the Pacific time zone. Some travel may be required.
Full salary range for this position : $77,625 to $112,620 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $77,625 (minimum) to $95,123 (midpoint). The starting salary is determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinates abstracting activities within the DCU, including contracted and non-contracted facilities.
- Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned abstracting staff.
- Monitors incoming mail files from surgery centers, radiation centers and other reporting sources and ensure timely abstracting of those cases into the statewide database.
- Provides training and orientation to new abstracting staff.
- Monitors productivity of abstracting staff and provides feedback to staff on productivity and quality issues.
- Provides monthly abstracting productivity reports to Data Collection Manager.
- Coordinates the annual death clearance process and ensures a timely resolution of the process as needed.
- Serves as the point-of-contact for contracted facilities to provide casefinding and abstracting services.
- Provides monthly fee-for-service update report to Data Collection Manager, Senior Director of Operations, CRGC Reporting Facility Compliance Officer, and CRGC Program Administrator.
- Collaborates with Data Collection Supervisor and Visual Editing Supervisor in the Data Collection Unit, working as a leadership team and providing cross-coverage when needed.
- Collaborates with the Central Cancer Registry and other Regional Registries when needed.
- Participates in meetings and teleconferences related to unit and California Cancer Registry (CCR) activities in data collection and quality control (weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly), providing expertise in cancer data issues.
- Attends all Data Collection Unit meetings and Public Health Institute / CRGC quarterly meetings.
- Attends local chapter, statewide and national meetings as resources allow.
- Performs other duties as required.
