The Food Services Work is a dynamic role and integral part of a school-based team that prepares and serves healthy foods for our students and staff and ensures accuracy and compliance with food industry and Department of Health standards and the National School Lunch Program mandates. The Food Services Worker will work in multiple environments, including the cafeteria and culinary classroom. This is a 10-month position, and the work schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional dates including the summer program as determined by the Executive Director. The Food Services Worker reports to the principal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cafeteria
- Assists the food services provider with food and meal preparation; maintains cash receipts and meal records
- Assists the food services provider in completing daily reports
- Maintains high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices
- Prepares quality food and baked goods according to a planned menu
- Prepares a daily report that verifies transactions
- Ensures student meals are accurately served and accounted for cost reimbursement
- Ensures food storage meets sanitary requirements
- Coordinates and assists in the major cleaning of all equipment, freezers, refrigerators, steam tables, and other related surfaces
- Follows established procedures and standards for cleanliness
- Assists the culinary teacher with food preparation, packaging, and managing cash transactions
- Excellent working knowledge of food safety standards and the ability to pass food safety certifications
- Strong ability to work with various school stakeholders, including students, staff, and food services liaisons
- Strong ability in time management, organizing resources, and establishing priorities
- Excellent ability to follow prescribed policies and procedures
Cafeteria
- Assists the food services provider with food and meal preparation for breakfast and lunch, prepares computers for recording meal transactions, and ensures logistics and operations are set
- Assists the food services provider in completing daily reports, including accurate food counts and meal counts, reports discrepancies
- Maintains high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices; prepares and cleans all steam tables, serving surfaces, etc.
- Prepares quality food and baked goods according to a planned menu for students and staff with special dietary restrictions
- Prepares a daily report that verifies transactions via prescribed software programs; reports discrepancies and works to resolve them
- Ensures student meals are accurately served in compliance with serve or offer programs as per the National School Lunch Program and verifies for cost reimbursement
- Ensures all staff lunches are charged and maintains an accurate account of financial transactions
- Ensures food storage meets sanitary requirements after all meals are served
- Coordinates and assists in the major cleaning of all equipment, freezers, refrigerators, steam tables, and other related surfaces daily
- Follows established procedures and standards for cleanliness, washes food bins and utensils, and maintains a clean, organized workspace
- Provides excellent customer service
- Assists student workers with serving responsibilities
- Assists the culinary teacher with food preparation and packaging as part of the curriculum
- Models food safety practices for students
- Assists culinary teacher by verifying financial transactions
- Complies with all Fairwold and PHMC policies and procedures
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience working in the food services industry in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with diverse populations, including special education students, preferred
- ServeSafe certification is required
