Program Description
Healthy Families Bushwick seeks a Spanish/English bilingual Family Resource & Support Specialist to provide families with home-based, culturally competent services. Healthy Families Bushwick identifies expecting families in Bushwick, District4, Ridgewood and other areas at risk for child abuse, poor health, and/or child development challenges and provides intensive home visiting services. The goal is to provide positive parent-child interactions, practice positive parenting skills, increase family knowledge about child development and the use of health and social services, and to improve educational and/or employment status for the parents. Families are enrolled during pregnancy or shortly after birth and are eligible to receive program services until the child enrolls in school.

Specifically, The Family Support/Resource Specialist Will
- Facilitate prenatal, parenting and health information.
- Promote optimal child development, enhance parent-child relationships, and improve family support system through routine home visits.
- Provide resources, including but not limited to education, health and support.
- Introduce and connect families to activities in the community such as recreational, educational and cultural activities.
- Engage in weekly, reflective supervision and teamwork.
- Participates in staff trainings and meetings.
- Maintain accurate case records to meet program, state, and federal guidelines.
- Complete all documentation and reports in a timely manner.
- Organize and facilitate parent-child socialization activities.
- Coverage visits when necessary.
- Continually outreach, recruit, and oversee the eligibility and enrollment of families.
- Model strengths-based interactions by accentuating the positive; assist families to identify and set short- and long-term goals.
- The Family Resource & Support Specialist will work closely with the management team to ensure the program fosters a positive work environment and promotes continuous learning and staff improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Development, Health, Social Work or related human service field, preferred.
- Must be bilingual (Spanish) with strong writing and speaking skills.
- At least two years of experience home visiting and working with low-income, racially and ethnically diverse urban families preferred.
- High level of maturity and experience working with children (0-5 years old) and their families.
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development, parenting skills and development of parent-child relationships, preferred.
- Must have sufficient English and computer skills to be able to do substantial documentation of case work on the computer.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must be willing to provide year-round in-home visits throughout the community.
- Strong knowledge of the use of public transportation in the area of Bushwick, District 4 and Ridgewood
