Summary
Pharmacy Technician 2 is under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists, performs a variety of complex tasks which require a great degree of skills and knowledge of technical pharmaceutical and practices, policies, and procedures of the pharmacy. Provides a high level of assistance in compounding (sterile and non- sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical supplies including but not limited to ointments, powders, and suspensions. May assist in training, coaching and counseling Pharmacy Technician 1.
Responsibilities
Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure established by policy. Troubleshoots for problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines. Performs substantially all sterile solution operations in a pharmacy which serves numerous units in the hospital. Assures adherence to sterile procedures, care of equipment, uses correct labeling materials and techniques required during sterilization procedures, schedules sterilization of bottles, and performance of standard assays on all completed solutions. Assures that all quality related procedures are followed. Inputs information into the Hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested. Determines whether pharmacy stock is at acceptable levels, and coordinates supply and demand for products with users. For areas not served by point of care automated dispensing equipment, assures that required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures. Performs extemporaneously compounding and prepackaging under the guidelines of pharmacy policy, and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist. May serve as preceptor to train, coach, and counsel Pharmacy Technician 1 so they are able to efficiently and effectively perform their duties. Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of the medication assets. Enters data into the computer system specialized to that activity. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.
Skill
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills / competencies, certifications / licensures, as required by the clinical area.
Credentials
Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI). Specialty certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
