Summary
Respiratory Support Technician provide comprehensive services and deep expertise in key obstetric and pediatric areas. The support technician has overall responsibility for the maintenance and supply of equipment in the area in which they support. Ensure that the patient care environment, floors, respiratory procedural rooms and bedside carts are adequately stocked with unit specific supplies and equipment.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the organization of stock and the cleanliness of the workroom and the stockroom. This will include the equipment shelves, ventilator / Bipap, floors and other equipment that may need cleaning, as deemed necessary by the shift supervisor. Responsible for daily stocking, checking supplies, and storage area for adequate inventory in all respiratory stock areas. Maintain, distribute, & order respiratory care stock, Oxygen, Medical Air gas, and order medical gases cylinders throughout the hospital; following regulation of par-level and storage. Manages equipment storage / par-level and maintenance including removing broken equipment and expediting repairs to Bio-Med when necessary. Responsible for the assembling and disassembling of all the respiratory therapy equipment needing to be cleaned or sterilized. Delivers dirty equipment to CSR daily, and picks up clean equipment. Responsible for the cleaning and assembling of mechanical ventilators and other equipment not sent to CSR and making sure the equipment is clean, pressure checked, verify preventive maintenance status, bagged and ready to be checked by the therapist lead worker prior to use. Prepare transports, set-up and check respiratory care equipment in both routine and emergency situations. Responsible for reviewing and updating patient's charges. Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing bronchoscopes, and following up with proper cleaning of the transport scope containers after every use. Following up the Bronchoscopes with Air Dying and proper storing. Monitor the last date the bronchoscopes were cleaned. Need to clean every 7 days. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.
Skill

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills / competencies, certifications / licensures, as required by the nursing area.
Credentials
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
