JOB SUMMARY
The CNO provides executive level leadership, strategy, and operational planning, direction, and administration of all aspects of the nursing and patient care functions in the nursing departments to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. The CNO is responsible for the RCORP, Rural Communities Opioid Response Program. Is responsible to ensure the organization can sustain resources and provide highest level of care for level 5 Trauma Designation. Ability to implement inpatient Wound program encompassing detection, evaluation, diagnosis, intervention and prevention and its policies and reporting. Ability to execute agreements to transfer patients requiring a higher level of care. Is responsible for financial health; develops and understands financial goals within the nursing operation including CAH Cost reporting, long-term capital plan, and financial performance of Assisted Living and Nursing Home. Adheres to budget and ability to identify revenue generating processes and cost saving efficiencies. Ability to build customer focused service standards. Able to implement and support initiatives currently underway to successful completion. Provides leadership to Nursing Operations Manager on daily activities within the nursing departments. Confident with being the primary Spokesperson of the nursing departments. Ability to foster positive relationships at all levels of the organization and community; is a role model in all aspects of the position supporting our mission and core values; ability to build strong relationships with the executive team and CEO and ability to mentor, inspire and motivate employees. Is an advocate for the patient/healthcare consumer. Departments include; Acute Care, Swing Beds, Emergency Care, Pharmacy, Social Services, Nursing Administration, Infection Prevention, Quality, Nursing Home, and Assisted Living. This position also acts as the Boarding Home Administrator for Assisted Living. Participates in Administrative and medical staff meetings.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Knowledge and ability to implement and support RCORP program and its policies, reporting and adhering to regulations.
- Knowledge and ability to adhere with all federal and staff laws for critical access hospital, level 5 ER trauma designation, nursing home, assisted living, pharmacy, nursing administration and nursing quality.
- Knowledge and ability to implement and support inpatient Wound program encompassing detection, evaluation, diagnosis interventions and prevention and its policies, reporting and adhere with regulations.
- Completes the electronic periodic performance review annually and completes any plans of correction which may be identified and implements corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Knowledge and understanding of value-based purchasing and hospital payment reform.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial health; budget processes, CAH cost reporting, long-term capital plan, and financial performance of Assisted Living and Nursing Home to ensure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from the approved departmental budgets.
- Ability to execute agreements to transfer patients requiring a higher level of care.
- Knowledge and ability to work with contracts.
- Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships at all levels of the organization, employees, executive team and CEO.
- Ability to provide leadership to Nursing Operations Manager in daily activities and communication between patients, families, and medical staff.
- Responsible to participate in committees: ER Committee; PT&T Committee; Infection Control Committee; Quality Committee; Complaint Resolution; Peer Review; Medical Staff Meeting; Emergency Preparedness; Big Bend Nurse Advisory Committee; or, otherwise necessary.
- Responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of performance improvement and QAPI.
- Organizes, directs, and administers nursing and patient care services to maintain an excellent level of care required by current medical and nursing standards.
- Ability to adapt to new or existing software and hardware technology as it pertains to nursing and patient care.
- Familiar with the organization and functions of all departments.
- Understands that working odd hours or days may be necessary at times.
- Takes ownership, understands, and executes Environment of Care responsibilities and functions. Performs all duties in EOC as required.
- Can identify areas needing improvement and execute solutions while maintaining high customer service satisfaction in all areas.
- Supports learning environment for staff and encourages student mentoring/teaching within the organization.
