What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 STAR Academy Summer Program Teachers position at Public Schools of Brookline (Districtwide)?
Up to (24) anticipated teaching positions in Brookline’s STAR Academy, a summer program for English learners and METCO students entering grades PreK through 8.
Program Information:
- The program runs from Monday, July 28th through Friday, August 15, 2025 and instruction takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program may be extended on specific dates to accommodate project-based learning experiences.
- The projected class size is twenty students. Each class will have a lead teacher and shared additional support (ex. assistant/paraprofessional).
- Additional staff including a program director, assistant director, team leader, teacher assistants, paraprofessionals, and adjustment counselors are expected to be a part of the program.
Teacher Responsibilities:
- Work from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm daily except on days when the program may be extended to accommodate special programming.
- Attend up to 3 meetings/orientation sessions prior to the start of the program, up to 3 meetings during the program, and commit to a maximum of 6 hours of paid preparation before the program begins.
- Enhance and teach a curriculum that provides opportunities for students to increase their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension as well as learn content area vocabulary and concepts.
- Communicate as needed with families and report on each student's progress.
Job Requirements:
- Experience teaching students in any grades, PreK-8
- Knowledge of best instructional practices in teaching English as a second language and supporting content learning for all students
- Knowledge of local and state learning expectations in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
- Ability to implement culturally responsive teaching practices that support the diverse needs of students in the program
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues
- MA teaching license (SEI Endorsement preferred)
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
- Attend all meetings that are scheduled for STAR Academy staff to the greatest extent possible
- Be energetic with a strong desire to work with children
- Communicate effectively- both in written and oral form- using positive interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
- Model responsible use of technology including personal cell phones
- Provide a safe learning environment for students
- Be a positive role model for students
- Be fluent in English; knowledge of another language is strongly preferred
