What are the responsibilities and job description for the Steps to Success Grades 3-8 Homework Center Staff position at Public Schools of Brookline (Districtwide)?
The Public Schools of Brookline is hiring for its after-school homework center. We seek a strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized person who will make an excellent role model for young people and lead in the cultivation of an elementary school homework program that is academically supportive AND works to expose our students to a variety of high quality enrichment experiences.
This is a part-time position (4 to 7 hours/week, including planning time). Prospective candidates will need to be available for employment starting September 2024 through June 2025.
Homework Center Objectives:

- Students will have increased completion of homework
- Students will turn in higher quality homework
- For the 22/23 school year we are looking to have a literacy & math focus added to the STS homework center
Duties
1) Collaborate with staff, which may include teachers, principals, special program staff, special program administrators, volunteers and others.
2) In collaboration with the PSB Steps to Success Director, create and implement consistent classroom management systems that include strong routines and procedures for the homework center.
3) Manage daily student attendance and track homework completion
4) Communicate regularly with program advisors, teachers & parents about student progress and homework completion.
Qualifications
- Experienced youth development worker with a minimum of 3 years experience in diverse classrooms, after-school, camp and/or residential settings. A teaching certificate and/or degree in related field strongly preferred but not required.
- Flexibility and creativity in relating to students in an after-school setting, while consistently demonstrating strong classroom management skills at the same time, is essential.
- Ability to interact effectively with after-school colleagues, school-day staff and administrators, parents, and community partners is required.
