TEACHER OF THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING, CERTIFIED 3-21 YEARS OLD; ESY ALL PROGRAMS
POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide consultation and direct services to meet the educational needs of hearing impaired students in BEEP, K-8, High School and/or Post-Secondary/Transition programs who require an Extended School Year (ESY), per their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Review available medical/audiological information pertaining to the student’s performance and probable use of hearing; obtaining updated medical/audiological information and sharing with parent, teacher, and other appropriate staff
- Communicate with Consultant and Diagnostic staff as appropriate
- Monitor the condition and use of appropriate amplification equipment for each student
- Provide consultation for instruction to each hearing impaired student assigned to the Teacher of the Deaf, as appropriate
- Provide consultation for lesson plans for implementing instruction, and/or develop lesson plans
- Provide basic training to students and teachers on individual and/ or classroom amplification systems used by students.
- Collect data to document student maintenance of skills during the ESY program
- Prepare ESY progress reports based on data collection
- Collaborate and consult with ESY staff members to provide strategies to adapt or modify learning tasks as appropriate
- Train students and staff members on the implementation of assistive technology devices related to hearing impairments.
- Effectively communicate with hearing-impaired students, using sign language when appropriate.
- Make regular contact with parents of students and keep records of contacts
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and language refinement needed by hearing impaired children
- Demonstrate skills necessary to communicate effectively and to provide a complete English model for hearing impaired children using a Total Communication approach
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement the following specialized areas:
- Monitoring amplification
- Use and maintenance of hearing aids
- Use of interpreter
- Total Communication
- Speech and speech reading
- Auditory Training
- Adapt as needed to changes in student and/or team response, available treatment locations, and educational activities
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment
QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:
- Masters required
- Mass DESE Deaf and Hard of Hearing certification required
Schedule:
- July 8, 2024 - August 15, 2024
- 9:00 - 2:00, Monday - Thursday - Hours, sites and schedule are dependent on caseload
- Additional 1-2 days of training prior to start of program
- Additional 30 minutes per day for planning
