What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Behavior Specialist position at Public Schools of Petoskey?
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Endorsement in at least one area of special education
- Experience with Functional Behavioral Assessment required
SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works collaboratively with district staff and families to support preschool through 5th grade students who exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Supports educational teams with developing,implementing and assessing individual support plans using the FBA model.
- Works with individual students and small groups to reinforce behavioral goals.
- Helps to maintain timely and accurate records of behavior incidents and provides progress monitoring around individualized goals.
- Assists staff with the intent of gradually releasing responsibility for behavior support to the school team.
- Maintains confidentiality of students, building level teams and families.
- Provides staff training on issues such as; crisis intervention and implementation of behavior strategies for at risk students.
- Displays effective communication skills with students, parents and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
School year as defined in the written agreement between the Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education and the Master Agreement between the Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.
