The Media Specialist is a crucial member of the Public Schools of Robeson County team, responsible for planning and implementing teaching and learning initiatives. This role involves assessing student and staff needs, collaborating with teachers, instructing students on information literacy, and promoting reading and lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning and Implementing for Teaching and Learning:
- Assess learning and information needs of students and staff
- Plan and work collaboratively with teachers
- Instruct students and staff in effective use of ideas and information
- Incorporate information literacy into day-to-day instruction
- Advocate and promote reading and lifelong learning
- Assist Digital Integration Facilitator team in enhancing learning through instructional technology
- Planning and Implementing for Information Access, Evaluation, and Use:
- Work with school leadership to provide flexible access to library resources
- Create and maintain a conducive learning environment
- Encourage widest possible use of print and electronic resources within the library
- Lead collaborative process to select and evaluate resources addressing curricular needs and learning goals
- Maintain accurate inventories of print materials
- Work cooperatively with other libraries to share resources enhancing teaching and learning
- Planning and Implementing for Program Administration:
- Design and implement short- and long-range plans ensuring balance among teaching, technology, collaboration, collection development, and program management
- Evaluate the school library media program according to accepted standards of quality
- Organize library facilities and resources to support the school's mission and maximize intellectual and physical access
- Lead budgetary process to ensure equity of access to instructional materials
- Interact effectively with students, staff, administration, and public to promote the library program
