Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Human Resources (HR) is a senior leadership role responsible for driving HR strategy, operations, and compliance to support the organization’s mission. This position ensures the effective delivery of HR services and fosters a positive work environment, focusing on attracting, rewarding, and retaining a diverse workforce. Reporting directly to the Director of HR, the Assistant Director collaborates with leadership to implement initiatives that align with organizational goals and values.

Essential Job Functions

  • Partner with the Director of HR to establish and implement departmental goals, objectives, and strategies.
  • Act as proxy for the Director of HR in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership.
  • Develop and maintain HR strategic plans, roadmaps, and annual planning calendars.
  • Manage the development and administration of Company policies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing guidance on complex HR issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with Affirmative Action Plans and oversee recruitment strategies to attract diverse talent pools.
  • Oversee the supervision of HRIS management and benefits administration, including retirement plan compliance.
  • Analyze and manage departmental budgets to align with organizational priorities.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for all exempt and non-exempt positions.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives, including training and development programs.
  • Monitor performance evaluation programs, compensation structures, and leadership development opportunities and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Create and sustain programs to enhance morale and motivation such as inclusion programs, engagement programs, and recognition programs.
  • Advise managers and employees on HR-related matters, fostering a culture of accountability and inclusivity.
  • Address employee grievances and relations issues, conduct investigations, and implement resolution strategies.
  • Collaborate with leadership to sustain and grow departmental programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop reporting and analytics capabilities to measure HR effectiveness and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team, assigning tasks, setting goals, and ensuring high performance.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the HR department.
  • Oversee professional development opportunities for HR staff, including training and certification activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education/Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • SPHR/SHRM-SCP or equivalent certification highly preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a management level or higher role.
  • Proven expertise in multiple HR disciplines, such as talent management, employee relations, compliance, compensation, benefits, OD, and HR technology.
  • Experience in process improvement, project management, and change management is essential.
  • Experience with federal contracting HR practices is a plus.

  • Advanced proficiency with HRIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analytics tools.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Highly approachable and engaging to employees at all levels of the company.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel locally and represent the organization professionally in community events.
