Certified Nurse Midwife – Full Time – Pueblo, CO
Pueblo Community Health Cetner (PCHC), located in family-friendly, multi-cultural city of Pueblo, CO is hiring a CNM to join its team in providing excellent care for the underserved community.
Starting Pay Range: $116,000 - $151K, annually
Job Summary:
- Provides medical care and treatment to perinatal and gynecological patients, delivers babies, and instructs patients in prenatal and postnatal health practices in accordance with accepted standards of practice and with established clinical protocols with the collaboration of a physician.

Education/Experience/License/Certification:
- Valid Colorado Nursing License with Certified Nurse Midwife Authority
- Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Midwife Program
- Insurable for Medical Liability
- Certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives Certification Council
- Current B.L.S. with skills demonstration C.P.R. certification for Healthcare Providers required
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and auto insurance coverage as required by law.
Required Travel:
- Frequent travel is required including day-to-day local travel for patient care, business meetings, community events, etc, of which some may occur during evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Ensure the function and activities of this department to embrace the philosophy, mission, values and Communicate with Heart service model supported by the Board of Directors of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
- Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
- Participate in initial examination of obstetrical patient, and is assigned responsibility for care, treatment, and delivery of patient.
- Examine patient during pregnancy, utilizing physical findings, laboratory test results, and patient’s statement to evaluate condition and ensure that patient’s progress is normal.
- Discuss case with Obstetrician to assure observation of specified practices. Follows guidelines for the practice of nurse midwifery in accordance with the protocols set for the by the Obstetrician Supervisor.
- Instruct patient in diet and prenatal health practices.
- Provide labor management.
- Deliver infant and performs postpartum examinations and treatments to ensure that patient and infant are responding normally.
- When deviations from standard are encouraged during pregnancy or delivery, administer stipulated emergency measures, and arrange for immediate contact of Obstetrician.
- Examine newborns in the clinic for 3-day well child checks
- Perform newborn circumcisions, if privileged to do so.
- Visit patient during postpartum period in hospital and at home to instruct patient in care of self and infant and examine patient.
- Examine women for gynecologic problems and well woman exams to include cervical and breast cancer screening and contraception management.
- Maintain records of cases for inclusion in establishment file.
- Conduct classes for groups of patients and families to provide information concerning pregnancy, childbirth, and family orientation.
- Provide comprehensive ambulatory care in accordance with established clinical protocols to the female patients of Pueblo Community Health Center.
- Maintain and broaden medical knowledge base through continuing education activities.
- Participate in PCHC medical staff activities and quality assurance programs.
- Be aware of and operate within the constraints of fiscal issues, facility and resource issues, managed care regulations, and liability issues.
- Maintain a professional and cordial environment in the clinic area and represent PCHC in a profession manner to the public.
- Provide health care services appropriate to the age-specific needs of all patients in accordance with the principles of growth and development for infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric life cycles.
- Maintain CPR/NRP certification.
- Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintain hospital privileges necessary to fulfill call responsibilities as outlined in employment contract. The employee may be required, as part of the health center’s arrangement with local community providers, to provide afterhours coverage or periodic or occasional cross coverage for patients of community providers. The employee may be required to provide care to non-health center patients as part of hospital call coverage as required by the hospital to obtain hospital admitting privileges.
- The employee may be required to provide services to an individual who is not a patient of the health center when the provider is then asked, called upon, or undertakes at or near the location of an emergency to provide service to a non-health center patient in an emergency situation or temporarily treat or assist in treating the non-health center patient.
- The employee may be required to provide supervision of students and medical residents providing care at the health center’s facilities or at non-health center facilities such as hospitals. This may include supervision of students or medical residents providing care to non-health center patients as required by a hospital for emergency room coverage or as a condition of obtaining hospital admitting privileges.
