Starting Pay Range: $15.93 - $18.75 an hour

Job Summary: Provides assistance and support to the medical coding team and patient accounts team with various duties to include but not limited to: Assisting in documentation review, coding, and data abstracting of medical/behavioral health service documentation to ensure that Pueblo Community Health Center receives appropriate reimbursement and conforms to applicable guidelines and regulations, mailing statements, reviewing account balances, assisting with credit and balance adjustments, and assisting with submitting claims.

Education/Experience/License/Certification:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Working knowledge of electronic medical record systems preferred.
- Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, HMO/PPOs, and/or other Third-Party Payers preferred
- Valid drivers license and auto insurance as required by law
Required Travel: Infrequent travel may include limited local travel
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

- Basic knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding helpful
- Basic knowledge of insurance billing.

- Essential to be able to reason mathematically, to have analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with clinical content of health record.

- Ability to perform clerical work in a medical setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
- Assist coding supervisor or team member to resolve coding issues in a timely manner.
- Assist coding supervisor or team member to resolve encounters with no coding attached to ensure timely filing of claims.
- Assist in correcting and resubmitting claims based on review of the medical record approved by coding supervisor.
- Works with Patient Accounts staff to resolve coding related denials.
- Acquires knowledge of coding conventions, guidelines, updates, and regulations governing government and third-party billing.
- Communicates with the Medical Coding Supervisor to provide feedback regarding documentation issues or reoccurring errors.
- Participates as needed in testing and training of new or existing systems.
- Assist in analyzing account balances to accurately bill patients for balance due.
- Assist in reviewing aging reports to identify unpaid claims for resolution.
- Must meet and maintain departmental quality and production standards.
- Must maintain all certifications required by this position.
- Participate in Department and General Staff Meetings.
- Provides assistant to the Patient Accounts team when needed and assigned by Coding Supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
