TITLE: Controls Installation Foreman
REPORTS TO: Superintendent, Controls
JOB DUTIES / GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Controls Installation Foreman is a working foreman position that is responsible for overseeing the installation of building automation systems, HVAC controls, and other electrical control systems on commercial and industrial projects. This role ensures that all control systems are installed according to project specifications, codes, and safety regulations while maintaining project timelines and managing installation crews. The foreman will work closely with project managers, electricians, technicians, and subcontractors to deliver high-quality installation services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership:
    • Oversee and lead the installation crew, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and on time.
    • Coordinate and communicate with project managers and clients to ensure installations meet project specifications and deadlines.
    • Provide daily updates on project progress, challenges, and resource requirements to management.
  • Installation:
    • Supervise the installation crew and installation of HVAC control systems, building automation systems (BAS), and electrical control systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
    • Ensure control panels, wiring, sensors, and equipment are installed according to electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and project specifications.
    • Lead troubleshooting and commissioning activities to ensure systems are operational upon installation completion.
  • Team Management:
    • Assign tasks and responsibilities to crew members, provide on-site training, and ensure all personnel follow safety and quality standards.
    • Monitor crew performance and ensure efficient use of labor and materials.
    • Maintain a positive and productive work environment on-site and resolve conflicts or challenges that arise.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national electrical codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
    • Perform quality checks on all installations, including wiring, connections, and control equipment.
    • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and clients to resolve any installation issues.
  • Safety:
    • Promote and enforce strict adherence to safety policies and procedures on-site.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site safety inspections.
    • Address and resolve any safety hazards immediately.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of installation activities, equipment used, time logs, and material inventories.
    • Complete installation reports and submit them to project management for review and approval.
    • Document any changes to project scope or specifications as required.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the installation of control systems, HVAC controls, or building automation systems.
    • Proven experience as a foreman, team leader, or supervisor in a similar role.
    • Experience working with commercial, industrial, or residential HVAC control systems is preferred.
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Technical training or certification in HVAC controls, electrical systems, or automation systems preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control systems, electrical wiring, and schematics.
    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving control systems.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA safety certification preferred.
    • Electrical or HVAC certifications are a plus.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work in various environments (indoor, outdoor, hot, cold).
    • Must be able to lift heavy equipment and tools as required (up to 50 lbs).
    • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
    • Willingness to work all shifts
