BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB |
The Perioperative Nurse is responsible for managing the care of the Interventional Radiology patients requiring a surgical procedure that requires moderate to complex assessments, interventions and levels of nursing vigilance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. The following are the essential functions of the job.
Duties:
- Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within timeframe specified by client facility’s policies, procedures or protocols.
- Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by the neonatal, infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult or elderly patient’s condition and/or the client facility’s policies, procedures or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly.
- Develops plan of care that is individualized patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
- Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
- Performs therapeutic nursing interventions as established by individualized plan of care for the neonatal, infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult or elderly patient and his/her family.
- Provides individualized patient/family education and discharge planning customized to the neonatal, infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult or elderly patient and his/her family.
- Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.
- Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult & pediatric resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.
- Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.
- Performs other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of one year previous PACU and/or Perioperative Nursing experience. Nevada State Board of Nursing license.
- BLS and ACLS certification.
- Conscious sedation certification
- Ability to do essential job duties.
- Ability to read, understand, speak and follow English instructions. Bilingual preferred.
- Display superior interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and peers.
- Must have complete competency in standard precautions, infection control, aseptic technique.

- Sitting This position frequently requires sitting to configure and enter data needed for electronic medical charts, diagnostic procedures on a RIS and PACS computer system and other essential job duties.
- Lifting This position frequently requires lifting objects weighing a maximum of 50 lbs. to carry out essential job duties and deal with patients with physical disabilities and/or disorders.
- Carrying This position frequently requires carrying objects weighing up a maximum of 25 lbs. for short distances to carry out essential job-related duties.

- Pulling This position occasionally requires pulling objects weighing a maximum of 50 lbs. to assist patients while at the facility for a required procedure and/or perform various job-related functions.

Explanation: The Perioperative Nurse’s position has access to confidential information such as social security numbers, dates of birth, and HIPAA information for all patients seen at the outpatient facility.

Explanation: A majority of affiliated personnel and patients communicate with our business in English. Bilingual abilities are always preferred.
What kind of work experience (including length of time), training, and/or level of education is necessary for this position? The Interventional Radiology Perioperative Nurse must possess skills and abilities to perform each essential job duty proficiently. This position requires a minimum of one year of previous PACU and/or perioperative nursing. It also requires a Nevada Board of Nursing License, BLS and ACLS certification, and conscious sedation certification.
List any technical skills (typing, computer skills, etc.): The skills required by this position include, but are not limited to, typing, computer literacy, faxing, scanning, copying, and knowledge of data entry on a RIS and PACS system.
List other special training and/or abilities are necessary to qualify for this position? The person that fills this position must be able to read, write, understand and interpret reports and correspondence in English. The individual must have problem solving and analytical skills to interpret physician requests and relay procedure results to facility physicians. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills needed for daily interpersonal communication with patients, staff, vendors, doctors, and direct report. Bilingual ability is preferred, but not required.
