What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Captain position at Pueblo of Pojoaque?
JOB PURPOSE: To manage the Security Department by providing a safe and secure environment for employees and customers, and for safeguarding assets and property for the Casino and Hotel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Measurement: # employees to supervise, workload/responsibilities, hours of operation,
- And number of Customers.
- To assist in the management, supervision, and operational duties.
- Assists in directing and overseeing the operation of the security department.
- Supervises Lieutenants, and indirectly supervises Sergeants, and Officers.
- Assists with the specialized security training program for First Aid/CPR, report writing, Standards and Procedures manual, and officer safety (defensive tactics).
- Schedules training sessions as required.
- Assists with reviewing and approving timesheets, leave requests, hiring actions, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions and submits reported paperwork to HR.
- Ensures that performance goals are established and that expectations are communicated to employees.
- Assists with the planning, directing and staffing of security activity.
- Assists with formulating and tracking department budget.
- May approve department purchases.
- Assists with establishing department policies and procedures.
- Recommends candidates for employment status changes, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff and is responsible for the application of organizational policies, procedures, and processes.
- Responsible for the overall direction and monitoring of the budget and strategic goals consistent with the mission and vision of the organization.
- Assists with establishing procedures for bomb threats, fires, evacuation, and armed robberies.
- Conducts special investigations when internal or external misconduct is suspected such as theft, fraud, vandalism, alcohol or drug abuse, and customer or employee incidents
- Ensures all Gaming related paperwork is completed and filed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older
- Extensive knowledge of departmental and Gaming Commission rules, regulations, policies and procedures; federal and state statutes, and tribal ordinances as related to security work, health and safety.
- Extensive knowledge of the casino layout and the geography of Pojoaque; and resources available for disaster and other emergencies.
- Strong knowledge of supervisory, management and decision-making techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to write and evaluate incident reports.
- Ability to formulate budgets and implement salary administration plan.
- Ability to analyze situations and take quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances.
- Must have a valid NM Driver’s License and approved by our insurance company.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- At Least 5 to 7 years of successful supervisory/management related progressive experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in solving practical problems in a variety of situations where standardization of concrete variables exists such as policies, procedures, regulations, and processes.
- Practical experience and a good understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of security enforcement professional.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Standing-25% /Walking-50% /Sitting-25%; primarily casino setting.
- Must be in good physical condition.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors, sometimes inclement weather conditions.
- May be subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns, broken bones, insect and/or animal bites, germs, bacteria, viruses, environmental allergens, gases and fumes, cigarette smoke and noise.
- May require arduous physical exertion under vigorous and unusual conditions.
- May be exposed to pain, suffering and mental anguish under emergency conditions.
- On 24-hour emergency call.
- May be required to work weekends and holidays
