CONSTRUCTION PROJECT INSPECTOR
FT/REGULAR
EXEMPT - LEVEL 10
GENERAL DEFINITION: The purpose of the position is to oversee a variety of capital improvement and land development construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, building codes, regulations, safety conditions and perform project inspections of the work performed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the direct supervision of the OP&D Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No Supervisory Duties.
DUTIES:
Ensuring the construction project follows the plans, regulations and design standards.
- Evaluate all construction plans and technical specifications to ensure the feasibility of all plans with all construction processes.
- Ensure all activities comply with Quality Assurance procedures.
- Prepare an effective schedule for all project progress.
- Prepares cost estimates for same and inspects all construction projects and associated activities and ensures compliance with all project specifications.
- Analyze and interpret all specifications and blueprints as per contracts and monitor all deviations to confirm compliance to all procedures and maintain a log of daily progress to prepare reports.
- Monitor the progress of all construction activities and evaluate all contract plans to ensure adherence to all procedures and specifications and maintain safety in all construction operations according to required building codes.
- Analyze all work sites and recommend changes or modifications as per requirements to improve all processes, administer efficient working of all construction projects in coordination with project engineers, and inspect all final constructions.
- Perform regular evaluation on all project specifications and monitor work progress to resolve everyday issues.
- Assist in the preparation of all documents needed throughout the project life cycle and project closeout.
Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with building standards and project specifications.
- Conduct field inspections to inspect standards of building structures and materials.
- Review plans to identify potential violations.
- Performs and analyzes all field quality assurance tests.
- Document inspections and report any issues.
- Maintain knowledge of all project requirements to adequately monitor and perform regular inspections on all contractor and inspector work progress.
Perform other duties as assigned.
- Attends construction meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and equipment related to construction. Knowledge of engineering plans, specifications and drawings. Knowledge of basic math applied to construction inspection. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints to be used to compare various aspects of construction progress. Skilled in interpreting construction drawings and technical specifications. Skilled in using Microsoft application platforms and AutoCAD. Skilled in detecting errors in construction projects. Ability to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Skilled in inspecting construction projects for quality control and compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and regulations. Ability to work independently, pay attention to detail and employ sound judgment. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology with five (5) years or more of related experience in any construction inspection.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES: Must have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License with no DWI convictions within the past three (3) years. Driving is an essential part of the duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires considerable physical exertion such as infrequent climbing of ladders, and frequent lifting of heavy objects over 50 pounds with repetitive bending, crouching, or stooping. Job requires above-average agility and dexterity. Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory & industrial chemicals, or confined, dirty, and noisy locations. Job may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Position is subject to pre-employment drug testing. The position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug screening for the duration of employment. Must undergo and successfully pass a thorough character background investigation including FBI Fingerprints.
