Social Studies Teacher

Department: Teaching Staff

Reports To: Principal

Salary Range: $38,723.44 to $64,042.62, annually

No Degree or License: $34,885.47 to $40,011.18 annually

Position Type: Exempt

Schedule: 10 Month School Calendar for teachers

MAJOR FUNCTION:

This full-time teacher will work with staff to deliver a 5th and 6th grade Social Studies program with an emphasis in instruction as outlined by the Colorado State Social Studies Standards. The teacher will also coordinate with staff, parents and community to integrate and diversify instruction. This position is responsible for monitoring and enforcing building safety, security, and assisting in planning and implementing student programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the requisite knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Plan, coordinate, collaborate and execute a program anchored in the Colorado State Standards, Paideia Principles, and other PSAS curriculum. Develop activities that support units of instruction including field trips, guest speakers, student exhibitions, cross-grade level or cross-curricular instruction and community service. The teacher will direct students toward behavior that fosters a positive learning environment for all learners. Support the policies and procedures for students, parents, and staff. The teacher will be held accountable for their actions, convey a professional image, demonstrate initiative, support the mission, have a record of solid time management skills, utilize appropriate decision-making processes, seek appropriate input, demonstrate reliability and dependability, and utilize healthy solutions to resolve issues. The teacher will be asked to demonstrate professional communication, interpersonal skills, effective planning and organization skills, and effective problem-solving strategies that reflect a collaborative posture. Overall work knowledge as a K-6 educator will be demonstrated through the following topic areas: designing of effective instruction that addresses school goals(i.e. standards and assessment, curriculum, building goals, mission statement, etc.) and the needs of diverse learners; implementation of instruction that is effective and actively engages students in the learning process; development and maintenance of a learning environment that promotes student well-being; consistently displays effective relations with members of the learning community; and represents and upholds the characteristics of an educational professional. Finally, the teacher will uphold the promises and commitments of the Paideia model by way of their active involvement in life-long learning through setting professional goals and demonstrating completion of those goals and seeking professional development.


Collaborate with team members and other units to provide an integrated program which involves planning, communication with staff concerning plans, follow through with committee members and meeting deadlines.

Collaboration with families, students, and staff to ensure an optimal academic success which may include phone calls to parents, e-mails to parents, communication with team members to discuss strategies for growth, communication with the counselor or other support staff, and the facilitation of family support meetings for students. Communication is fostered through open dialogue with all interested parties for the academic success of all students.


Evaluation and recording of students’ grades within the pre-established grading tool, immediate scoring of student work and the recording of student work using an electronic student management system, and inputting documentation, such as student data or special plans.


Other duties assigned by the director, principal, or designee.


Note: This position requires the ability to work occasional evenings to support all programs, field trips and to monitor students before/after school or during lunch and recess. You must be able to work these hours to be considered for this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


MINIMUM REQUIRED:

  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university


PREFERRED:

  • Colorado Teaching License;
  • Previous experience teaching Social Studies in the K-8 environment;
  • Previous experience teaching at a charter school
  • Demonstrated technology proficiencies in the use of Microsoft Office, Internet, Simple Webpage building, Electronic Gradebook, and Email;
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team and create instructional units;
  • Verifiable experience dealing with conflict resolution;
  • Verifiable experience working in a position that required organizational and planning skills;
  • Demonstrated implementation and use of instructional strategies to promote student engagement
