General Purpose
Maintains customer account records and billing data for new, transferring, final and delinquent accounts; analyzes customer usage data for accuracy and processes information for billing purposes. Reviews and processes work orders, and telephone credit card payments. Accepts payments and responds to customer account inquiries in person regarding the status of customer accounts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accepts and processes payments from customers. Answers telephone calls from customers related to billing / delinquency notices, initiation of water service, prepares appropriate paperwork. Initiates and finalizes customer accounts, prepares and completes work orders. Responsible for assigned cash drawer. Maintains a high degree of accuracy in the performance of all functions.
Verifies meter reading data, final work orders and records for accuracy, coordinates with Service Department to schedule on-site appointments and issues work orders to investigate discrepancies. Updates customer account records.
Receives incoming telephone calls, directing inquiries to appropriate department or personnel.
Updates customer information on computer. Corresponds with customers and other employees, in writing, as necessary. Prepares paperwork for third-party notifications.
Checks account status and initiates procedures for returning meter deposits to customers.
Coordinates the status of pending work orders with various departments. Generates work orders as needed. Inputs completed work order information as required for billing purposes.
Researches archived records. Files daily work orders, computer reports and customer files. Contacts customers, by telephone or in writing, regarding delinquency notices, security deposits, Non-Sufficient-Funds checks, and final or delinquent bills. Processes NSF checks, ACH returns, review account history, note customer account, update credit history and generate work order as appropriate.
Responds to customer inquiries related to water shut-off and payment extension procedures to prevent shut-off. Sets up after business hours telephone message machine for customers on shut-off list.
Completes and mails forms such as third-party notifications, commercial applications, E-Z pay forms, security deposit notifications, transfer letters, and new customer letters.
Reviews daily delinquent account reports and prepares shut off list for use in department and by others. Reviews delinquent account and prepares delinquent notice letters for mailing.
Operates Pueblo Water vehicle.

Education, Training and Experience
Colorado Class "R" Driver's License
A minimum of two years of related experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent math skills to handle cash and process payments.
Keyboarding speed of at least 45 words per minute. Speed is based on a 5 minute test.
Knowledge of computers and ability to operate data entry and word processing software programs.
Must possess the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Materials and Equipment Used :
Pueblo Water vehicle.
Working Environment and Level of Physical Activity :
Work is performed in an indoor environment. Frequent interruptions, including interaction with customers, are present 50% of the time and may inhibit the normal performance of duties. Work may require sitting / standing and / or walking for long periods. Lifting, pulling, and / or pushing of items (seldom in excess of 40 pounds) is infrequent.
