Description
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head Start Program Director, the Building Superintendent performs maintenance and housekeeping duties that relate to maintain the physical plant, equipment, and grounds in a condition of operating excellence in order to ensure a safe, clean environment.
Cleaning:
- Performs and assists in general maintenance of facility including housekeeping, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and other areas as directed.
- Maintains and carries out a preventative and corrective maintenance program for facilities and equipment.
- Conducts periodic inspections of the building and equipment to determine areas of needed repair.
- Serves as liaison to vendors.
- Ensures compliance with fire safety standards. Checks fire prevention equipment on a scheduled basis (e.g. exit lights, back-up lighting, emergency panic bar batteries, etc.) to ensure that they are in good working order.
- Does general trouble shooting and performing mechanical repairs including a strong working knowledge of HVAC, heating, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration.
- Is able to read blueprints and schematics.
- Transports furniture and supplies as needed.
- Performs snow removal and appearance of grounds.
- Cleans the facility on a daily basis following guidelines/work plans established by the center’s leadership team including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, sanitizing classrooms and restrooms.
- Opens or closes the building. Turns on/off all systems.
- Serves as Fire Marshall.
- Empty garbage cans, wash, and disinfect.
- Sweep and mop floors throughout the premises, including spaces under cabinets.
- Reset the classrooms at the end of each day.
- Wash and disinfect all bathrooms, bowls, basins, and floor fixtures.
- Refill soap, toilet paper, and paper towels as needed.
- Sweep front of facility and playground daily.
- Storing of cleaning supplies.
- Conducts health and safety inspections.
- Documents inspections of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, emergency lights, fire extinguishers, etc.
Maintenance:
- Replace light bulbs when necessary.
- Maintain all safety precautions for the electrical outlets.
- Check all fire extinguishers as required.
- Check all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as required.
- Check emergency exit lights to ensure proper functioning.
- Stripping and buffing of floors as required.
- Assist with delivery and storage of program supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Assist in maintaining, sorting, and distributing classroom and office supplies.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- Participate in meetings and trainings as needed.
- May be required to work flexible hours as needed to perform various tasks based on program needs or emergency conditions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Previous related experience in general custodial duties such as cleaning, repairing and painting, housekeeping and general maintenance.
- HV AC, Fire Marshall, Boiler Maintenance Certificates
- Ability to work with children and parents.
