What are the responsibilities and job description for the Body Shop Tech- Paint Prep position at Puklich Chevrolet?
Summary
Assists in refinishing of damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership quality specifications and time standards. Assists in refinishing the vehicle as quickly as possible in a safe and quality manner with a fit and finish that meets or exceeds the original factory fit and finish. The end result should be an invisible repair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operates and uses all body shop equipment properly and safely.
- Inspects every vehicle as it enters the paint shop from the metal department, to ensure that it has passed all previous inspections and standards.
- Notifies the appropriate person of hidden or missed damage that doesn’t appear on the Work Order.
- Accepts responsibility and accountability for all parts for any jobs that are assigned. Develops and organizes as system for holding parts until they are installed on the vehicle.
- Removes grease and dirt from work surface.
- Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
- Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
- Conducts any buffing necessary.
- Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags, and unpainted areas.
- Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.
- Keeps work area clean and neat.
- Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
- Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
- Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
- Keeps current on all training requirements; such as GM training, Compliance training and other training as assigned by manager.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Sets a good example by maintaining a healthy work demeanor and cooperating with other managers and fellow employees in a positive spirit of teamwork. Represents Puklich Chevrolet positively when out in the community.
Qualifications
- Experience in auto glass installation, automotive repair, or sheet metal work is preferred.
- Strong skills in vehicle maintenance and detailing.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) as required.
- Proficient use of hand tools related to automotive work.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
