POSITION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience with school Transportation services
- Five (5) years supervisory experience in K-12 Transportation
- Valid and appropriate Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License or agree to obtain within one (1) year
- Arkansas School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate or agree to obtain within one (1) year
- CPR/First Aid Certificate or agree to obtain in one (1) year
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Operations
JOB GOAL: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the District's schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize and supervise an efficient transportation system.
- Prepare, execute and review the transportation budget. Collaborate with the finance department to prepare transportation bids and requests for sale and the purchase of equipment.
- Develop long and short-range plans/goals for budget, personnel and facility needs in response to growth or change in the mission for transportation.
- Develop and administer a transportation program to meet all the needs and requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities. Collaborate with district administration, building principals and others responsible for planning special school trips and activities.
- Act as liaison for parents, students, stakeholders, and community members for any transportation concerns and special requests. Promote positive responses and communication at all times.
- Conform and comply with all federal, stat,e and local laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- Actively participate in professional organizations, committees and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain and review safety standards in conformance with all federal, state and insurance regulations.
- Develop/update programming of employment, assignment, preventive safety and maintenance of the transportation department.
- Develop/updated school bus safety plans with law enforcement agencies, department staff and other individuals and groups to include emergency evacuation planning.
- Develop/update emergency school building evacuation plans for buses by documenting procedures, educating personnel and participating in emergency drills and exercises on a consistent basis.
- Recruit, train and supervise all transportation personnel and make recommendations concerning their employment, transfer, promotion and release.
- Advise the Executive Director of Operations and the Superintendent on road hazards for decisions on school closings during inclement weather.
- Investigate accidents, road failures and other problems associated with the school transportation services.
- Complete and dispatch insurance reports in a timely manner.
- Prepare and maintain records and transportation reports in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Submit all reports required by federal, state, and local authorities.
- Prepare bus routes and update bus schedules as needed for PCSSD.
- Maintain all district-owned equipment and develop/update plans for preventive maintenance.
- Take an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.
- Develop recommendations for future transportation needs based on an annual survey of resident students.
- Respond to after-hour emergencies.
- Perform staff annual evaluations in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary Range: Range 12 - Support Staff Daily Salary Schedule ($ 304.54/day - $441.77/day
depending on relevant experience)
Length of Contract: 244 contract days
FLSA Status: Exempt
Personnel Status: Classified

Performance of this job will be evaluated according to provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
