JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining safety and security within the District Court.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Announces the opening and closing of court.
- Monitors the courtroom proceedings to maintain security within the courtroom; removes any disruptive person; makes arrests when necessary.
- Inspects the courtroom daily prior to court sessions to remove any devices that could be used as a weapon by a prisoner.
- Escorts and provides security for prisoners from holding cells to the courtroom.
- Observes all persons entering the courtroom to identify any possible courtroom disruption; screens persons entering courtroom through metal detectors to identify and confiscate any weapon being taken into the courtroom.
- Posts a copy of the court docket.
- Makes bank deposits of court funds on a daily basis.
- Provides information to the public regarding fine payment and courtroom procedures.
- Provides security for monthly DWI school to ensure the orderly conduct of participants.
- Serves as department’s Terminal Agent in Charge (TAC) for the Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC).
- Schedules employees for ACIC certification classes and maintains employee ACIC training records.
- Responsible for conducting the department ACIC audit.
- Develops and implements an emergency response plan in the event of a security issue or a natural disaster.

- Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a smoking-restricted office environment. Trips to the bank must be made daily. Attendance at a monthly DWI school on Saturday is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of the proceedings of District Court and related office support.
- Considerable knowledge of statutes, ordinances, and regulations governing safety and security for courtroom proceedings.
- Some knowledge of surveillance equipment.
- Some knowledge in the operation of computers and digital recording equipment.
- Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
- Skill in the operation of a firearm.
- Skill in the operation of a metal detector device.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate orally.
- Ability to restrain prisoners when necessary, during court sessions and escorting to and from the court.
- Visual acuity is needed to inspect the courtroom.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of high school or GED equivalent; some experience with law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an ACIC/NCIC check and CLEST physical and psychological evaluations.
- This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be able to immediately obtain ACIC certification.
- Must have CLEST certification.
- Must obtain Court Security Officer (CSO) certification offered by the Administrative Office of the Courts within one year of employment.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
