JOB SUMMARY: Assists in the preparation of criminal cases by gathering pertinent information on cases referred to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and provides security for all offices, courtrooms, and staff members of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Locates and interviews witnesses, victims, and other persons who may provide pertinent case information; follows up on leads to gather additional information.
• Conducts taped and/or written interviews to be transcribed and forwarded to the appropriate case attorney.
• Serves and stops subpoenas; maintains files of subpoenas served and stopped.
• Testifies in court about information obtained during investigation and subpoena service.
• Provides security for the Prosecuting Attorney’s building and staff; arrests suspects when necessary.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Gathers physical evidence necessary for case preparation, such as medical records, police reports, and photographs; may fingerprint suspects and conduct surveillance.
• Composes letters of inquiry to individuals and agencies in connection with cases under investigation.
• Transports witnesses and/or victims to a court or other locations as it relates to the case.
• Maintains a working relationship with other law enforcement agencies and contacts in the private sector to obtain divulged information.
• Performs other related duties as required.

PERSONNEL SUPERVISED:  None

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work performed primarily in smoking restricted office environment with local frequent traveling to various high-crime areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• • Good knowledge of the responsibilities and services provided by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
  • Good knowledge of interviewing techniques and research methods.
  • Good knowledge of court proceedings and legal terminology.
  • Good knowledge of Pulaski County roads and city streets.
  • Ability to prepare detailed narrative and informational reports.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply Arkansas laws governing the rules of evidence and the issuance of subpoenas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain qualification for carrying a firearm.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other County employees and other governmental agencies.
  • Ability to effectively conduct interviews in high-crime areas and with a variety of people from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate facts and evidence.
  • Ability to read and interpret police reports, medical records, etc.
  • Ability to maintain detailed record keeping.
  • Ability to attend work regularly and reliably. 
  • Skill in obtaining necessary information through interviews.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• • Digital dexterity is necessary for writing and keyboard operation.
  • Visual acuity is needed for reading, crime scene canvasses, and the use of computer screens.
  • Ability to hear and speak sufficiently to communicate information in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of college-level course work in Criminal Justice, Law, or a related field; some experience in criminal investigations; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
