Job Title: Medical Assistant (Pulmonary & Sleep Practice)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Pulmonary and Sleep Practice. This role primarily focuses on providing clinical support to patients, with occasional front desk duties. The ideal candidate will assist with patient exams, prepare for procedures, and manage patient care, including handling clinical voicemails, fielding calls for providers, managing procedure and medication authorizations, and coordinating follow-up care to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support:
- Assist healthcare providers with patient exams, including taking vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, oxygen levels, etc.).
- Prepare patients for exams and procedures related to pulmonary and sleep disorders.
- Conduct pulmonary function tests and administer breathing treatments as directed by physicians.
- Assist with the preparation and sterilization of medical equipment and exam rooms.
- Document patient histories and update medical records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Educate patients on treatments, procedures, and preventive care for pulmonary and sleep-related conditions.
- Support providers in the management of chronic pulmonary conditions and sleep apnea.
- Manage clinical voicemails: Respond to patient calls and messages promptly and professionally, ensuring all messages are appropriately relayed to providers.
- Field calls for providers: Answer and triage calls from patients and other healthcare providers, ensuring that all inquiries are addressed in a timely manner and routed to the appropriate team member as necessary.
- Manage procedure and medication authorizations: Submit and track authorizations for procedures and medications, ensuring timely approvals and coordinating with insurance companies when needed.
- Follow-up on procedures and recall management: Track and follow up on patient procedures to ensure timely results and care. Manage recall systems to remind patients about necessary follow-up appointments, tests, and screenings.
- Occasional Front Desk & Administrative Duties:
- Greet patients and assist with check-in/check-out as needed.
- Help schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up visits when required.
- Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries, assisting with any concerns.
- Assist with insurance verification and billing inquiries when needed.
- Ensure smooth patient flow and contribute to maintaining an efficient office environment.

Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in pulmonary or sleep medicine, is a plus.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to pulmonary and sleep disorders is highly preferred.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact compassionately and professionally with patients.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to handle clinical voicemails and field calls for providers efficiently and professionally.
- Experience with managing procedure and medication authorizations, and coordinating follow-up care.
- Flexibility to assist with front desk duties as needed.
- Proficiency with EHR software and basic office equipment.
