In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and maintaining the embedded software that powers our cutting-edge respiratory drug delivery devices. The ideal candidate is passionate about improving patient outcomes through technology and possesses a strong background in embedded systems and the development of medical and IOT devices. In this exciting role the Embedded SW Engineer will have responsibility for Software Architecture and Development, related usability and risk management amongst other topics as part of the internal new products development team. This person shall ensure the products’ software is verified and validated.

- Development of embedded software for medical devices and electrical medical devices (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971) and IOT devices
- Creation of Software Architecture
- Embedded software development (microcontroller ESP32, I2C, SPI, GPIO, C/C /C#, BLE, WIFI)
- Development and documentation of software according to IEC 62304
- Software Verification and Validation
- Unit and Modul Testing
- Implementing and managing Cybersecurity for medical devices
- Managing (sub-) projects according to the internal standards
- Represents PULMOTREE within the respective responsibilities to internal and external partners and acts as an entrepreneur with focus on business needs
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for respiratory medical devices. (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971)
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with medical device hardware components.
- Implement and optimize real-time operating systems (RTOS) and firmware to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate embedded software, ensuring compliance with medical device standards.
- Write and maintain clear, well-documented code and technical documentation according to IEC 62304
- Ensure the safety and security of software, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as IEC 62304.
- Implementing and managing Cybersecurity for medical devices (ISO 80001, ISO 81001, AAMI TIR57, MDCG and FDA guidance documents)
- Debug and troubleshoot software issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain device functionality and performance.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and risk assessments to ensure high-quality software development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and clinical experts, to develop innovative respiratory solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or proven experience as an Embedded Software Engineer, preferably within the Med Tech or medical device industry.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C and C , with experience in embedded systems development.
- Strong understanding of microcontrollers, microprocessors, and their peripherals.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and firmware development.
- Familiarity with medical device development standards, such as IEC 62304, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and FDA regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on patient safety and device reliability.
- Excellent communication (German and English) and teamwork abilities, with experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with debugging tools, version control systems (e.g., Git), and hardware-software integration.
- Understanding of wireless communication protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) is highly desirable.
- Portfolio or examples of previous embedded software projects, particularly those relevant to medical devices or respiratory technology.
- Experienced in requirements management (i.e. requirements traceability matrix)
- Self-motivated and “can do” attitude, a willing to be flexible, with an ability to adapt to change
- Willingness to work on-site in Munich (no 100% remote work, no freelance contracts, part-time possible)
- Valid permit to work in the European Union necessary
