Student engagement in learning can be heightened by a rich extracurricular and co-curricular life, and our after school programs provide students with ample opportunities for exploration, experiencing, example and excellence / expertise.
The Music School collaborates to fulfill an important part of the Punahou School mission : to develop and enhance creativity and appreciation of the arts. The Music School is seeking passionate and experienced teachers, who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning. A Music School Teacher will :
- Instruct private bass lessons
- Assess students
- Plan and organize resources for lessons
- Select appropriate repertoire (sometimes in relation to assessments / examinations / competitions)
- Adapt lesson resources and tailor teaching methods to the needs of the individual
- Provide an effective, varied, and enjoyable range of activities to further students' musical and technical abilities
- Set clear goals for student progress and self-assessment
- Complete written feedback reports and assessments
- Encourage students to perform in weekly recitals and studio recitals
- Organize annual studio or inter-studio recitals, as appropriate
- Communicate with parents and academic staff and network to maintain contacts
- Teach with the use of technology when appropriate
- Keep up-to-date knowledge of pedagogy research and resources
- Be an active member in professional organizations
- Be active in the music teaching community
- Attend faculty meetings
