What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emerging Technology Specialist - K-12 position at Punahou School?
The Emergent Technology Specialist will play a leadership role in supporting faculty across our K-12 campus with the effective implementation and integration of AI and other digital resources for enhanced teaching and learning. The ET Specialist, reporting directly to the Junior School and Academy Principals, will help faculty enhance their curriculum and pedagogy through technology and improve student engagement and learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education and technology, and skilled in implementing and integrating technology in a classroom setting. Job duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Meet regularly with the Junior School and Academy Principals.
- Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning regularly to align Emergent Technology coaching with the goals of each division’s Principal.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders and consultants in contributing to the school’s AI literacy framework.
- Collaborate with and support teachers to design and implement lesson plans that integrate effective use of Generative AI and other emergent technologies.
- Work with the Director of Analytics and Planning to assess the efficacy of emerging technologies in the classroom, helping to document and collect case studies and/or examples for further analysis.
- Lead training and professional development for faculty on new technology tools and best practices for digital learning. This may also involve supporting workshops and other opportunities for faculty to share their work and ideas with each other.
- Provide opportunities for parents to learn more about emerging technologies and get a glimpse into how they are being utilized in classrooms.
- Develop summer professional development opportunities for faculty from across the state to learn with and from one another
- Work with specific grade levels and sub-departments to ensure that teachers are supported in implementing a curriculum that utilizes AI and/or emergent technologies.
- Provide regular communication to the community about the different tools available for use, including ways that various constituencies across campus can use them in their work.
- Play an active role in identifying possible tools, working with the IT Department to determine whether they meet our security criteria, to test them, and if viable scope out costs and administration of the tool(s).
- Promote digital citizenship and responsible use of technology.
- Provide encouragement and support to teachers.
- Research educational technology trends to ensure the school remains a leader in digital education.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 12 months
- School Year: 2025-2026
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday, Hours between 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; schedule may vary based on needs
- Starting Annual Salary: $115,000*

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, Master’s preferred.
- Five (5) years of classroom teaching experience.
- Proven experience in implementing and integrating technology in a classroom setting.
- Strong understanding of pedagogy and teaching methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of current trends in educational technology and digital learning environments.
