LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE
Qualifications:
Must hold a current license as a Registered Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of LA
Reports To: PAC Manager
Specific Job Duties:
- Helping students achieve and maintain maximal health, thus allowing the student to funciton to the best of their capabilites- physically, emotionally, intellectually, educationally and socially- by serving as an advocate for the student, promoting positive approaches to optimal health
- Shall assist students with chronic health problems by assisting the student, the family, and school personnel increase or maximize the student's potential for participation in school and related activites.
- Will be responsible for daily, monthly, and yearly charts of work activities as well as other required reports by the central office.
- Assist in medical screenings on EPSDT- eligible students according to EPSDT guidelines under the direction of a school nurse
- Follow an established routine for all students assigned for care
- Assist school principals and teachers in reviewing student immunization records as directed by the school nurse
- Assist school principals and staff in carrying out medical procedures that have been assigned by the school nurse.
- Perform follow-up to health screenings of all students in assigned schools who failed the first screenings performed by parents or volunteers. Notification of parents for students who fail any health screening will be handled by the school nurse. The school nurse must refer additional screenings of the student.
- Actively follow or monitor students with suspected defects or health problems as assigned by the school nurse or principal
- Assist in training the appropriate school personnel on the proper techniques to follow in the implementation of medical procedures prescribed by a doctor to be performed for or by the student for whom it was prescribed under the direction of the school nurse.
- Act as liaison to school personnel in all phases of health problems, health education, and student counseling in such areas as:
a. Communicable Diseases
b. Care of lesions, ringworms, ans skin disorders
c. Control of lice and scabies
d. Intestinal parasites
e. Student personal hygiene
f. Seizures
g. Diabetic complications
h. Emergency treatments
i. Visual and hearing acuity testing
j. First aid - Serve as a liaison between the school nurse and the school
- Maintain complete records of all school nursing activities performed
- Assist in the coordination of school health services within the school environment
- Assist in the diapering for students assigned
- Carry out medical procedures such as tube feeding, catheterizations, suctioning, glucose readings, etc., as directed by physician's orders or the school nurse
- Participate in appropriate student activities as designated by the classroom teacher as assinged by the school nurse or principal
- Maintain an adequate inventory of latex gloves and other supplies and equipment necessary for the efficient, continuous functioning of the health programs at the school assigned
- Perform other health or educational duties as established by the Superviosr of Child Welfare and Attendance and/or the Director of Special Eudcation for Lafourche Parish in accordance with credentials.
- Will rotate through area schools to become familiar with other students and their plan of care.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or by Superintendent

- Participates in professional activities on a local, state, and national level in assigned areas (include for appropriate personnel)
Communication
- Understands and interprets written and verbal instructions from immediate supervisor and gives clear written and oral instructions to others as required
- Accurately compiles data, summarizes information and provides written reports when required
- Answers the telephone and receives visitors in a courteous and efficient manner
- Follows the chain of command for various administrative procedures
Attendance and Punctuality
- Reports to work at the assigned time
- Attends work consistently
- Contacts Supervisor when absent
- Scan in or out using the employee scan system as appropriate
Safety
- Completes task in a safe manner as prescribed by the Safety Department or by the employee's profession/craft
- Maintains a neat and orderly work environment
- Dresses appropriately for the job assigned and in compliance with state law and board policy GAMB Employee Dress Code
- Displays employee ID tag at all times while on duty
- Reports any unsafe conditions or any incidents of injury or damage immediately to the appropriate official
- Complies with policies GAMA Employee Tobacco Use and GAMD Drug-Free Workplace when on duty
Terms of Employment
7 hours per day - (180 days)
There shall be a probationary period of 90 days from date of employment for new employees. After 90 days, a decision based upon an evaluation will be rendered in regards to the employee’s status as a permanent employee.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of non-instructional personnel
The Superintendent reserves the right to change the job and any other duties, as required, with advance written notification.
Salary : $29,510 - $37,153
