The Opportunity: The Senior Manager, Accounting is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Accounting team including the accurate, complete and timely recording of financial transactions, maintenance of the general ledger and completion of timely period-end close activities, in accordance with GAAP and internal controls. This role will be responsible for overseeing the Accounts Payable function ensuring best practices and strong controls are followed. This role will back up the Controller and includes issue resolution, managing external and internal relationships, as well as working cross-functionally across the Company.
What You Will Do:
- Manage and provide strong leadership, coaching and mentoring to the Accounting Supervisors, and Accounts Payable Manager
- Ensure the periodic (monthly, quarterly, annual) financials (balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows) are accurate and complete through timely reviewing, approving journal entries and account reconciliations, performing thorough financial analysis, reviewing external financial statements and footnotes, and bringing and incorporating accounting and process improvement best practices
- Manage, oversee and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the technical and operational accounting activities of the organization as well as internal and external financial reporting. Specifical technical topics include Internal-Use Software Costs and Cloud Computing Arrangements
- Support FP&A and other departments with period-end and ad hoc financial analysis
- Direct, coordinate and communicate timely and accurate period-end close activities. This includes setting the monthly, quarterly and annual closing schedules, proactively communicating progress and status updates to management and FP&A as well as cross-functional business partners as appropriate, ensuring deadlines are met and timely identifying, communicating and resolving issues
- Prepare, update and ensure compliance with Accounting policies and procedures documentation, process improvements and automation, and cross-training of team roles and responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and implementing any technical and operational accounting policies and procedures
- Own the Accounting team’s compliance with internal controls
- Collaborate with various departments to support overall company goals and objectives
- Serve as main point of daily contact for external audit process by providing reports and support, answering questions and engaging the Controller as appropriate
- Identify and implement new or improved processes to improve productivity and efficiency and incorporate best practices
- Provide support for the implementation of key projects for accounting
- Support sales tax accounting and reporting
The Experience You Will Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- 10 years of progressive experience in Accounting and 5 years in a people supervisory or leadership capacity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills
- Mix of public accounting and industry accounting experience to bring Accounting best practices
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- Proficient in using and understanding large ERP systems
- Proactive and forward thinker with the ability to focus on long term solutions and business evolution
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and adapt to a growing and changing environment
- Strong communicator with the ability to define and communicate business issues, with experience building close cross-functional relationships and engaging management
- Exceptional analytical skills with a proven track record of identifying and resolving financial discrepancies
- Ability to work longer hours during peak periods
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a high volume, low dollar transactional environment
- Large ERP system experience
