The School Food Service Associate plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of front and back-of-house operations within the school's nutrition department. This position involves a combination of food preparation and service, dishwashing, and general sanitation duties to support meal service. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent communication skills, be a team player, and maintain high sanitation standards.
Requirements
Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, dish area, and cafeteria space
- Dispose of trash and recyclables in designated areas
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks as assigned
- Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors in kitchen, service areas, and cafeteria
- Clean and sanitize prep tables between meal service times
- Remove trash bags and dispose in dumpster
- Fill/empty soaks tubs with cleaning/sanitizing solutions
- Ensure compliance with child nutrition meal service requirements and accurately complete necessary paperwork
- Stock cook line and cafeteria with food items and paper products
- Communicate professionally with students, parents, and staff members
- Participate in meal service and maintain a sense of urgency
- Adhere to nutrition, sanitation, and industry regulations, including ServSafe guidelines.
- Set up and break down the dishwashing area as needed
- Sort and rinse dirty dishes, glasses, tableware, and utensils before loading them into the dish machine
- Wash pots, pans, trays, and other kitchen equipment by hand
- Cross-train in other areas of food service as needed
- Must enjoy and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a dishwasher in a commercial kitchen
- Must attain ServSafe Food Handler certification within first 30 days
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to operate kitchen tools and utensils
- Frequent reaching, bending, grasping, lifting, and carrying
- Physical ability to work extended hours on feet
- Ability to lift and carry food containers weighing up to 50 lbs
- Ability to lift and empty trash cans weighing up to 100 lbs. with assistance
- Frequent washing of hands to maintain hygiene standards
- Comfortable working in a hot, damp environment
