Job Summary
The Natural Resources Spatial Analysis lab, directed by Songlin Fei, is hiring lab technicians to assist with several ongoing research projects related to phenology, remote sensing, spatial ecology, and/or digital forestry. The hired technicians will work closely with other undergraduate technicians, graduate students, and staff researchers.
Multiple positions are available.
Job Descriptions
Students will primary be either computer or field-based.
The field technician will conduct fieldwork related to forestry. This includes collecting tree growth measurements, species identification, and mapping. Duties may also include non-field duties including data entry, digitizing, quality control and other duties as assigned. However, much of this role will be conducted outside.
The computer technician will digitize/annotate model training data, catalog spatial data, data entry, digitizing, quality control and other duties as assigned. Minimal to no duties will be conducted outside.
Expectations
Technicians are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours a week but no more than 20 during the Fall 2024 academic semester. Hours can be flexible per week to accommodate mid-term, project, and finals deadlines. Job may be extended beyond single semester based on performance.
Pay rate is $15/hour and is negotiable based on experience.

Required
- Purdue Undergraduate Student with a desire to gain professional experience in the forestry and spatial ecology fields.
- Major or minor in forestry, natural resources/environmental science, wildlife, computer science, or other related STEM fields
- Experience with field work or GIS software, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience conducting tree species identification and growth measurements.
