This position serves as the principal school contact and liaison for staff, students, faculty and external contacts (industry, alums, donors, educational and medical institutions). Responsibilities include performing non-routine, high impact tasks for the Department Head as requested, while providing support and oversight for the BME primary committee, awards committee, faculty search committees and BME safety committee. Central to the role is working with time sensitive and confidential information from constituents, developing and disseminating policies and procedures and managing the coordination of major school events. Administratively supervise, coach, review and delegate tasks to school’s support staff, while proactively maintaining timely and accurate communications internally and externally.

- Serve as principal school contact for PISA and the liaison with decision making in the absence of the Department Head
- Work independently with staff, students, faculty, Purdue and non-Purdue contacts
- Handle confidential correspondence involving alumni, donors, faculty, staff and students
- Organize, track, distribute, and make decisions on documents that have deadlines including reports as required by the College of Engineering, University Development Office, Provost’s Office, and President’s Office
- Flag, track, and alert the Head and appropriate BME faculty and staff members regarding these deadlines, and collate data, draft internal and external reports, and create meaningful public presentations for Head as needed
- Plan, schedule and oversee special on-campus events such as workshops, symposiums, advisory board meetings and visits by alumni, donors, and prospective faculty
- Coordinate off-campus events such as representation at major professional society
- Represent Weldon School by active participation on University and college-level committees at the specific request of the Head
- Strategize, coordinate and oversee School’s presence at engagement events such as Family Day, Homecoming, and national and international conferences
- Use personal discretion in direct communication with alumni, donors, intramural and extramural contacts
- Develop and approve school publications and web sites
- Access confidential information
- Administrative supervision for BME administrative/clerical staff including interviewing, making hiring decisions, recommending training, assigning/reviewing work and performing annual evaluations for administrative staff
- Provide direction and supervision to personnel who support school’s faculty and development staff needs
- Resolve personal/confidential issues or concerns that require discretion and judgement
- Explain and clarify building policies to faculty, staff and students to maintain school’s expectations for a productive working environment

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations or a related field.
- Six (6) years of relevant experience in a technical, medical, academic, or corporate management environment.
Skills Needed:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills in order to work well with a diverse group of alumni, advisory board members, administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Essential skills include problem solving, organization, customer service, attention to detail, and analytical skills with ability to work with complex processes and concepts.
- Must have excellent computer, database management and electronic publishing/presentation skills.
- Must be highly motivated and a self-starter to plan and implement internal and external programs.
- Must handle confidential material appropriately.
