What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Research Technician position at Purdue University?
The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology is seeking an Associate Research Technician. In this role, the primary responsibilities will include working directly with faculty and graduate students implementing field trials at multiple Purdue Ag Centers and ACRE, running standard experiments, supporting researchers in the scheduling and operation of field equipment fleet used for field preparation, plot layout, planting, pesticide applications and harvest of crops as well as collecting research data related to field research trials. In addition, you will follow standard procedures and utilize precision ag technologies to program research equipment for variable-rate planting, pesticide application and yield data collection based on input about data required by faculty and graduate students, crop scouting and field conditions.
- Associate’s degree in an Agronomic major: Agronomy, Ag Systems Management, Plant Pathology, or related field
- 1 year of field experience
- In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (HS/GED 3 years of experience)
- Experience with the use of Precision Ag technologies and agricultural equipment operation
- Ability to obtain certification and/or licensing in regulated areas as needed (example: Possess or have the ability to acquire a Cat 1 pesticide applicator license within 1 year of hire date)
- Ability to acquire a Class B CDL within 12 months of employment
- Ability to become approved to drive Purdue University vehicles
- This position may require seasonal hours beyond 40 hours per week as needed.
