What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Corporate Business Development position at Purdue University?
The Director of Corporate Relations will be pivotal in advancing the College of Agriculture's mission by forging and nurturing strategic industrial partnerships. This role demands a dynamic leader who will collaborate closely with the Purdue Office of Industry Partnerships and the Purdue Research Foundation to secure substantial funded research awards, establish high-impact collaborations, form teaming agreements, and identify grant proposal partners. Additionally, the Director will drive the creation of funded internships, targeted online education opportunities, and other industry-led philanthropic initiatives.
As a key member of the College of Agriculture's senior leadership team, the Director will work in tandem with the College Dean and Associate Deans to craft and execute strategic plans that elevate industrial partnerships. The Director will also work with the Vice President of Industry Partnerships, ensuring alignment with broader institutional goals. The Director and this leadership team will set and achieve ambitious performance metrics that propel the College toward its strategic objectives.
- Engaging stakeholders, highlighting the benefits of partnerships, leveraging expertise, and promoting success stories to attract new collaborators and drives the College's strategic goals forward
- The role requires a minimum of 25 annual asks or new proposals of $100K or more, 10-15 new commitments of $100K or more annually, and managing a portfolio of 20-30 Ag companies, each with a planned or solicited ask to justify management and encourage annual portfolio refreshment
- Director offers effective leadership to fully implement all new strategic partnerships and annually secures 4 to 6 million dollars in principal and planned gifts to meet the strategic needs of the College's programs and disciplines
- Maintaining and enhance the value of relationships, the Director provides timely and insightful reporting and feedback to partners
- Effectively networks and cultivates new and exciting partnerships by actively engaging with the Agriculture Alumni Association executives and the campus innovation and entrepreneurship leadership
- Maintaining a significant on-campus presence to foster strong relationships between corporate leaders and the College of Agriculture faculty and staff
- Creating a streamlined process for sharing data, metrics, and vision across all College of Agriculture groups, ensuring collaboration and strategic effectiveness
- Building a formal reporting structure to enhance communication among partners and provide appropriate levels of recognition for partners
- Bachelor's degree
- 8 years of combined experience:
- Administrative and leadership roles in an organization with responsibilities for strategic planning, decision-making, and relationship-building
- Working in corporate relations, industry affairs, regulatory or government relations
- Knowledge of the Agricultural Industry
- High-level presentations and verbal and written communication, including social media
- Ability to work with a variety of groups, such as faculty and industry personnel
- Working independently but able to build a collaborative working group
- Experience working diplomatically with corporate C-suite or university leadership
- Broad experience or knowledge in any Agricultural scientific discipline
- Demonstrated ability to: develop and manage industry partnerships, develop and execute marketing strategies and analyze, interpret, communicate, and adhere to organizational and funding agencies policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Demonstrated excellence in collaboration, team building, relationship development, and maintenance experience
- Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and complete projects
- Demonstrated excellence in high-level presentations and verbal and written communication, including electronic media
- Persuasive communication skills to develop clear proposals, inform management, and relay information to cross-functional teams
- Frequent travel and evening and weekend duties may be required
- Advanced degree based in agriculture research (M.S. or Ph.D.) and knowledge across Agricultural Sciences and disciplines
- A major in agricultural or life sciences or experience in the agriculture business sector
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic, industry, or government professionals
- Building collaborative teams and working with faculty groups
