The purpose of the position is to plan, develop, oversee, contribute, and implement events and programming that increases the visibility of the John Martinson Honors College (JMHC). The activities to be managed include collaboration with multiple stakeholders and the target audience includes individuals both inside and outside of the college. The Event and Programming Manager will work with and represent at university events, JMHC colleagues, and JMHC students to create buy-in for activities and events that raise the external profile of the college and develop new and creative approaches to events / functions. The position holder needs to be able to work independently with limited supervision and exercise judgment to plan and make decisions on event arrangements and make moderate to significant improvements to enhance performance of events. Responsible for managing budget for each event and approving expenses. This position will use tools like Qualtrics to track, pull, and analyze event data to assess the effectiveness of programming. Requires working some evenings / weekends, the salary for this role will start at $60,000 per year.

The John Martinson Honors College is Purdue's academic residential college that serves highly motivated undergraduate students in all majors and grounded in four pillars : interdisciplinary academics, research and creative endeavors, global and community engagement, and leadership. The college serves about 3700 students across the West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations. College Transitions's "50 Best Honors Colleges" recently recognized the JMHC with a top 8 national ranking.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Oversee and contribute to all aspects of event planning, coordination, and logistics of various JMHC functions and events both on-and off-campus, including but not limited to programming tailored to honors students, faculty, staff, and donors (e.g., medallion ceremonies, Public Impact Career Fair, Springfest, etc.). The events in this portfolio represent the Office of the Dean and garner high visibility across the campus and among a wide range of constituents. Initiates and leads collaboration among event partners such as College and School event planners and Purdue For Life. Directs and communicates with content experts in event planning ranging from securing location to preparation of event materials; uses tools like Qualtrics to track, pull, and analyze event data to assess effectiveness of programming; prepares event budgets and monitors expenses. As part of these duties, this position contributes to the decision making about vendor selection, reviews contracts, and creates event agendas / outlines.
  • Develops new and creative approaches to events / functions. Under limited supervision, lead event planning committees to design and develop comprehensive programming to highlight the value add of the JMHC and provide updates about processes. Represents JMHC at campus events, meetings, and committees, which may require public speaking.
  • Support various high profile JMHC initiatives and special projects in collaboration with the Dean.

Required :

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience required. Familiarity with and experience in event and program planning, networking, and interacting with a wide range of constituents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to work independently and with a team. Adaptable to a changing environment. Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills. Capable of collaborating with multiple partners. Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to gather and provide appropriate data for event planning and execution.
