What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Maintenance Worker (Evening) position at Purdue University?
As a Service Maintenance Worker for the Operations and Maintenance dept., you will:
- Perform a variety of repair and maintenance duties on building structures and systems.
- These activities include but are not limited to plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, plastering, and locksmithing.
- Respond to and prioritize work orders.
- Troubleshoot to diagnose problems and determine repair or maintenance needs.
Days/Hours: M-F, 3:30pm to 12:00pm (Shift premium is $0.45 per hr plus Hourly rate of S1 or S2 depending on what level Hiring Manager determines)
Note: This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as an Associate Service Maintenance Worker (S1) or a Service Maintenance Worker (S2). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
Associate Service Maintenance Worker Day (S1):
Required:
- High school diploma/GED
Helpful:
- General maintenance work experience
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting, plastering and locksmith fields
- Mechanical aptitude and leadership skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and written and verbal instructions
- Basic math functions
- Competencies for this position are work standards and productivity, communication, interpersonal and intercultural relations, decision making, and dependability; may include financial, coaching, delegation, and planning
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and coworkers, and customers
- Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, and stand, walk or stoop extensively
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds
- A valid US or Canadian drivers' license
Preferred:
Familiarity with University policies regarding building maintenance and security
Service Maintenance Worker Day (S2):
Required:
- High school diploma/GED
- Three years of general maintenance work experience
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting, plastering and locksmith fields
- Mechanical aptitude skills
- Leadership skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics
- Competences for this position are work standards and productivity, communication, interpersonal and intercultural relations, decision making, and dependability; may include financial, coaching, delegation, and planning
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Will perform basic math functions
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and coworkers, and customers
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, and stand, walk, or stoop extensively
- A valid US or Canadian drivers’ license
