What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Clerical - Peer Counselor position at Purdue University?
The Purdue University Division of Financial Aid is looking for current students, who will be enrolled at the West Lafayette campus during the Fall 2025 term, to fill Peer Counselor positions. Employment is expected to begin May 12, 2025, with a starting wage of $15.00 per hour. The intensive, paid, two-week training, and one week of job shadowing will be held daily Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. This on-campus position also requires part-time work (10-15 hours per week) during the academic year with optional hours during Purdue breaks. Peer Counselors will choose the hours that best fit around their class schedule each semester. The expected summer 2025 and summer 2026 hours will be Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the opportunity to take 2 weeks of unpaid vacation time each summer. We ask that a student stay a minimum of two years or longer. After completing training and learning how financial aid processes work, the Peer Counselors help Purdue students and their parents by answering questions on the phone, and via email, regarding the FAFSA application, financial aid eligibility, and current aid status. This is a para-professional position that will help you gain the resume-building experience needed as you move from an academic setting into your chosen future career. Please read the Division of Financial Aid Peer Counselor Frequently Asked Questions web page for additional information and complete the online application located at https://www.purdue.edu/dfa/form/peerapp.html. Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule a personal interview. Interviews will begin mid-February 2025.
