Position Summary

As a Plastics Tooling Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement solutions to support the production of plastic parts. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will create and optimize tools and molds for injection molding processes. This role focuses on enhancing operational efficiency and safety by designing and refining high-quality, cost-effective tooling solutions. To succeed, you’ll need a strong understanding of blueprints, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective time management. Ultimately, your work will ensure that manufacturing tools and equipment are efficient, reliable, and support high-quality production.

What will you do:

  • Design and develop tooling solutions for plastic parts production, considering factors such as material properties, part design, and production requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure tooling meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Optimize existing tool designs for improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct tests and evaluations to validate tooling performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to troubleshoot tooling issues during production.
  • Stay current on industry trends and advancements in plastics tooling technology to drive continuous improvement.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proficiency in CAD Software: Strong skills in software like SolidWorks, or AutoCAD for designing tools, molds, and fixtures.
  • Blueprint and Technical Drawing Expertise: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of injection molding, CNC machining, casting, and other relevant manufacturing methods.
  • Material Knowledge: Familiarity with materials used in tooling, such as steel, aluminum, and various plastics, and how they perform under different conditions.

Additional qualifications that will help you be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in tooling design and development, specifically in plastics manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in CATIA software for designing tooling and molds.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes and tooling materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.


Travel:

  • 10-20% travel may be required to other site locations, vendors, suppliers, etc.
