Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Billing Manager, the Billing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the billing department, providing leadership and support to department staff, internal employees, and vendors. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and persistence. The Billing Supervisor ensures compliance with industry regulations and advocates for patients by facilitating accurate and timely billing processes that support access to necessary therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign and monitor quality of work within the billing department to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage daily operations, including ensuring adequate coverage, monitoring productivity, reviewing metrics, and driving quality results.
- Participate in and deliver SOP creation, training sessions, learning components, and team-building activities in collaboration with the Billing Manager. This includes close collaboration, audit and training, with vendors providing support to the billing team.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal departments to ensure timely resolution of issues and patient inquiries.
- Perform weekly reconciliation of posted payments against bank records to ensure accuracy.
- Provide front-line support to team members, including backup assistance when needed.
- Conduct monthly audits of employee performance, offering feedback and necessary corrections.
- Oversee scheduling, including approving time-off requests while maintaining adequate department coverage.
- Address employee relations matters and conduct performance evaluations in alignment with company policies.
- Monitor and support employee training progress, focusing on development and performance metrics during one-on-one meetings.
- Manage disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Billing Manager to ensure proper documentation and execution.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, payor policies, and other healthcare billing standards.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding payroll and HR-related matters.
Ability to make independent, revenue-impacting decisions with accuracy and efficiency, while consulting the Billing Manager as needed. - Extensive knowledge of medical billing, claims processing, appeals, and denials, with hands-on experience in the billing process.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to optimize patient care, clinic operations, and maximize collections.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service while working with internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of computer literacy in a PC environment.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Education/Licensure/Technical Requirements.
- Minimum of three years of experience managing claims and aging, with expertise in federal, commercial, and national contract billing.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a leadership role related to billing, with demonstrated ability to oversee and coordinate department operations effectively.
- High school Diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to meet U.S. employment and eligibility requirements
