The Counselor fulfills the assigned role as part of the treatment team, maintaining the well-being of clients and the integrity of the program. They shall provide intake and assessments, group facilitation, treatment planning, individual sessions, aftercare planning, client supervision and staff/unit support as assigned. Must be at least 26 years of age as required by insurance company, clean driving record with valid drivers license. Must be Certified with CAADE, CCAPP or CADTP to be eligible for hire.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Groups & Activities
  • Individual Sessions
  • Scheduling and transporting to appointments
  • Completes admission/intake procedures for new clients including all paperwork, room assignments, and initial orientation.
  • Conducts property searches of clients as required by program standards.
  • Orientation of clients to facility and house rules.
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
  • Records interventions and interactions with clients
  • Working knowledge of the philosophy and approach Smart Recovery and 12 step program.
  • Provide and record BAC and UDS tests on clients when required per program standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients, staff, peers, and supervisors as well as reporting or notifying appropriate staff during client crises or concerns immediately.
  • Provide transportation services including client transportation, business errands, airport pick-up/drop off, etc. as needed per supervisor.
  • Assist in smooth house flow by answering the phone, filing paperwork as directed, making copies of various documents upon the request of nurses, therapists and/or administrator.
  • Routine checks on the client’s whereabouts while on facility grounds and document per program standards.
  • Maintenance of visual contact on clients, during an off-grounds outing/errand request and reporting any behavior or actions to the treatment team that does not coincide with treatment plans or program rules.
  • Role modeling and use of appropriate social interactions, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • Assist with ADL's
  • Put away client activities after they are finished for example art projects, puzzles, movies, journaling
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and ability to recognize intoxication.
  • Light housekeeping
  • Online Learning completed within 30 days of hire
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Normal demands associated with an office and residential environment
  • Frequently stand, walk, and sit
  • Frequently reach above, at, or below waist height
  • Frequently kneel, bend, stoop, turn, and twist
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 10lbs., occasionally 20-50lbs
  • Work on computers for periods of time
  • Ability to walk up and down flights of stairs

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Valid Alcohol and Drug Certification credential required.
  • First Aid certification, obtain within (7) days of employment and maintain current.
  • CPR certification, obtain within (7) days of employment and maintain current thereafter.
  • Health Screen, obtain (60) days prior to employment or within (7) days after employment.
  • TB test must be obtain (45) days prior to hire or obtained within (5) days after hire.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week

  • 8 hour shift
  • Evening shift
  • Every weekend
  • Monday to Friday
  • Rotating weekends
  • Weekends as needed
