What are the responsibilities and job description for the RESEARCH ENGINEER position at PureCycle?
Role Overview
This position will support activities in the Durham Research Center, providing hands-on support for lab-scale experiments. This role will also serve as a process scale-up engineer to support long term efforts to optimize the commercial purification process.
What You'll Be Doing
Plan and execute lab-scale high pressure polymer dissolution experiments
Analyze experimental data and report conclusions
Troubleshoot daily operations and provide guidance for ongoing improvements
Lead development of new lab facilities and steward process changes through management of change system
Work independently to leverage engineering knowledge, literature searches or external interactions to support optimization of the commercial purification process
Utilize engineering calculations to help support scale-up of commercial optimization projects from lab-scale data
Observe all safety rules and regulations, act safely and is responsible for the safety of others on site. Ensure safety is top priority using tools such as energy isolation, Safe Work Permitting, Job Hazard Analysis, Safety Observations, etc. Brings problems to the attention of the leadership.
Basic Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
Ability to interpret and organize lab scale data
Ability to develop experimental plans and determine data necessary to support higher level business objectives
Experience developing scalable models and designing experiments to gather data for validation
Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Ability to contribute to the technical team using online communication tools
Ability to prioritize and shift gears in a fast paced and challenging environment.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to practical problems.
A highly motivated team player.
Must be flexible with the ability to change, adapt and grow.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check and pre-employment physical.
Nice to Haves
3 years of combined experience in industry or academia
Experience with polymer chemistry, polymer handling or polymer blending
Experience in industrial research and development
Experience with polymer analytical tools (DSC, GPC, NMR, FTIR)
Experience with supercritical fluids
