Leading Academic Excellence Across PBSA

Purpose Built Schools Atlanta seeks an experienced, results-driven instructional leader to drive academic excellence across PBSA’s three campuses. Reporting to the Chief Schools Officer, the Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction will lead the development and implementation of high-impact instructional practices, ensuring all educators receive exceptional coaching, data-driven professional learning, and curriculum support that leads to measurable student success.

  • Key Partnerships : Works closely with School Principals (3), Campus Leadership Teams (3 teams) and Assistant Principals of Instruction (3)

Purpose Built Schools , in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), operates three neighborhood schools in South Atlanta: Slater Elementary School (PreK-5), Price Middle School (6-8) and Carver STEAM Academy (9-12). As a network of partner schools , we have the flexibility and autonomy similar to charter schools, but remain true neighborhood schools that serve every student in our attendance zone.

Neighborhood Schools

PBSA schools are neighborhood schools, not charter schools. Every student who lives in our attendance zone can enroll in our pipeline of PreK-12th grade schools

Role & Responsibilities

Functional Leadership & Vision (20%)

Under the leadership of the CSO and as a member of the Instructional Core Executive Leadership team, set and communicate the network’s academic vision.

  • Build out and share the vision for curriculum and instruction with all relevant stakeholders, including collateral, progress monitoring measures, and mechanisms for support and accountability.
  • Cultivate a culture of high expectations for student achievement and professional growth, inspiring educators to be lifelong learners and active participants in student success.
  • Collaborate with campus leadership teams to ensure commitment, understanding and investment in the curriculum and instruction vision.

Instructional Excellence and Professional Development (30%)

Ensure alignment of instructional practices and academic frameworks across all schools.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the network-wide curriculum to ensure alignment with state standards and the needs of diverse learners.
    • Oversee the Instructional Support program, ensuring a consistent K-12 Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI) framework is embedded into the school day, extended day, and extended year programs.
    • Coordinate service delivery models serving gifted and talented and bilingual students in PBSA schools.
    • Lead the integration of instructional frameworks, including Project-Based Learning and STEAM, into the network’s core curriculum.
    • Design and lead a system-wide professional development strategy for instructional staff, ensuring training is research-based, culturally responsive, and data-driven.
    • Manage and support instructional coaches in delivering targeted, data-driven coaching to teachers to improve classroom practices and student outcomes.

    Assessment and Data-Driven Decision-Making (15%)

    Establish a rigorous system for continuous data collection, analysis, and instructional adjustments to drive student achievement.

    • Build and implement a year-long cycle for network-wide assessment, data analysis and implementation of new strategies.
    • Lead pivots to the year-long academic strategy, based on real-time student data.
    • Partner with campus leadership to analyze student performance data, identify achievement gaps, and implement targeted instructional strategies to improve outcomes across all student subgroups.
    • Monitor progress toward academic goals and report findings to stakeholders, providing transparency and fostering continuous improvement.

    Team Leadership and Management (25%)

    Build and maintain a team commitment to excellence, equity and professional learning.

    • Lead and manage the instructional coaching team across three schools by setting clear expectations, providing ongoing coaching, and fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
    • Collaborate with school leaders to ensure alignment between instructional coaching and school-level priorities.
    • Build systems to evaluate and refine instructional strategies and professional learning initiatives, ensuring sustainable growth and effectiveness.

    Commitment to Equity and Community Engagement (10%)

    Ensure equity is centered in all decision-making.

    • Champion the integration of culturally relevant pedagogy across all schools.
    • Promote an inclusive instructional environment that supports the academic success of all students, including those with special needs and English language learners.
    • Communicate relevant information and act as a bridge between the network and the community, ensuring curriculum and instruction reflect and honor the diverse identities and experiences of students and families.

    Education, Certifications & Experience
  • Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field
    • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership , Curriculum Development, or a related field highly preferred.
  • Certification: Active school leadership/administrative license, in Georgia or reciprocal state, required (if out of state, 1 year to obtain)
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in schools, with an established track record of student achievement.
    • Former teacher of record in core content, required.
    • Proven experience in leading turnaround efforts in urban education settings with similar student demographics, required.
    • Prior experience in K-12 vertical integration, preferred.

Compensation And Benefits

Purpose Built Schools offers comprehensive benefits and a competitive salary as one of the highest-paying school networks in Atlanta. The salary range for this role begins at $138,149 with the ultimate amount being commensurate with experience and in accordance with our pay equity practices.
