What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Technician position at Putnam County Animal Shelter?
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and attention to animals in the kennel facility
- Feed, water, and exercise animals according to their individual needs
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and other animal living areas
- Administer medication or treatments as directed by veterinary staff
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to the supervisor
- Assist with grooming tasks such as bathing, brushing, and nail trimming
- Provide basic training and socialization for dogs in the kennel
- Handle and restrain animals safely during procedures or examinations
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and treatment
Skills:
- Experience or knowledge in pet grooming, dog training, or animal care is preferred
- Ability to provide compassionate care for animals of all sizes and temperaments
- Strong customer service skills to interact with pet owners and answer their questions
- Basic understanding of veterinary procedures and medical terminology is a plus
- Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting and handle large or energetic animals
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the kennel environment
- Ability to work well in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors
