Overnight Shelter Attendant
Contract Position
Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (40-45 hours per week)
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
Location: Palatka, Florida
Job Summary:
Seeking compassionate and responsible Overnight Shelter Attendants to oversee the safety, security, and comfort of a safe space for people experiencing homelessness to sleep during overnight hours. This contract position will work from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, providing support to clients, ensuring the facility remains secure, and addressing any issues that arise.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor the safety and security of all clients and the facility during overnight hours.
Conduct routine checks of the premises, ensuring doors and windows are secured and the environment is quiet and calm.
Assist clients with any immediate needs, including intake, basic needs assistance (such as bedding or toiletries), and crisis intervention.
Maintain accurate records of nightly activities, incidents, or any concerns raised by clients.
Respond to emergencies or disturbances in accordance with shelter protocols, including contacting emergency services if necessary.
Enforce shelter rules and guidelines in a firm but respectful manner to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all.
Maintain common areas.
Facilitate the morning transition for clients as they prepare to leave the premises.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
CNA or social work certification is preferred
A background working with people experiencing homelessness and/or marginalized populations
Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
Ability to work independently and remain alert during overnight hours
Compassionate, empathetic, and able to maintain professionalism in a variety of situations
Basic computer skills to maintain records and complete reports
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
Bilingual speakers preferred
Willing to work weekends and holidays as needed
Must be able to pass a drug and background check
Contract Terms:
$15 per hour, up to 45 hours per week.
This is a contract position and does not include benefits.
