What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service / Applications Engineer for Industrial Furnace position at PVA TePla America, Inc.?
Develop electrical, hardware, software and basic applications skills necessary to provide direct service, technical and basic process support to PVA TePla customers for Vacuum Furnace Equipment. Lead the company’s efforts to provide superior service to customers; resolve problems in most efficient and appropriate manner for the customer and maintain the company’s product quality commitments to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. Considerable travel throughout the U.S. and occasionally internationally to France and / or Germany for training will be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned) :
Travel to customer sites for installations, equipment repair and preventative maintenance on various types of products, coordinate technical information, resolve problems, and work to assure appropriate mix of technical skills and experience within the field service organization.
Monitor customer support activity for new system installations, refurbished and retrofit systems work, preventative maintenance and / or emergency repair field service schedules.
Assist in design and implementation of field / product upgrades, including software.
Assist in resolving problems associated with spare parts and delivery issues when necessary.
Analyze performance, schedule conflicts, quotations, customer satisfaction indicators, and take corrective action or performance improvement initiatives.
Develop and train new customers support technical personnel.
Support service marketing initiatives of sales and marketing personnel.
Maintain communication regarding customers, technology development, business trends, and spare parts management and manufacturing schedules for new systems with corresponding departments such as the Business Unit.
Plan and direct information management, coach and communicate technical and business matters.
Build and maintain business relationships, communicate technical information and assist with resolution of customer’s issues.
Participation in and contribution to teamwork within the organization is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Sciences Electrical or Chemical Engineering is preferred with knowledge of both High & Low Voltage circuits or significant previous experience in related equipment featuring vacuum systems, precision electro-mechanical systems, mass flow controllers for both liquids and gasses, large equipment manufacturing, chemical distribution equipment, air scrubbing, cooling or field service or applications is acceptable. This position requires direct customer relations and technical support in major capital equipment markets. Excellent communication capability, and strong computer skills is mandatory.
Individuals with previous equipment experience with any of the following Vacuum Brazing, Sintering, Sinter HIP, Diffusion Bonding, CVI, CVD, Plasma Nitriding, Plasma or Graphite Purification Furnaces are highly encouraged to apply.
GENERAL SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Must be proficient in computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft’s Word, Excel and other basic computer programs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems, troubleshoot and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Resourcefulness in resolving problems within the legal and ethical standards of the business is required, and demonstration of regular attendance and punctuality is essential. Competences to lead, supervise, and develop customer support engineers, technicians, would be advantageous. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain clear and cooperative working relationships with co-workers and subordinates. Patience, exercise of judgment, discretion, tact, and strong customer relations skills are required.

The normal work environment is typical of an office, large equipment manufacturing or production operation, laboratory and semi-clean room facilities. The employee will be required to travel frequently to customer location’s to install, repair and evaluate electro / mechanical systems. Travel will include international destinations and may require multiple day stay-overs. Employee must comply with customer’s requirements when entering customer’s facilities that correspond to their established procedural guidelines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee may at times be exposed to large and moving mechanical parts. The employee may on occasion, be exposed to; fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
