Position Description

General Summary:
The CLEC Service Technician is responsible for Residential/Business internet and telephone installation along with problem diagnoses to satisfy PVT customers. Familiar with both COAX and FTTP platforms.
Essential Job Functions:
- Makes all types of video, internet and telephone installations via multiple transport methods (CATV, VDSL, FTTP) by identifying the correct cable pair, installing and properly grounding drop and inside wiring; installs wall outlets with concealed wiring, plugs, and jacks.
- Locates trouble in CATV, internet and telephone installations; repairs or replaces equipment or wiring at fault.
- Uses CATV meter and/or volt meter; interprets reading to identify and/or locate line troubles; determines necessary repairs; changes coax and/or cable pairs if required.
- Picks up color-coded cable pairs and properly arranges inside wiring cable in key system terminal blocks.
- Assist Headend Manager and Sweep Technician with the installation and troubleshooting of plant related equipment when required.
- Repairs all trouble to cable plant, drop wire, station wiring and telephones; works with central office personnel to diagnose and repair trouble in field electronics.
- Performs DOCSIS and ONT power level testing on completed installations to insure dependable service.
- Performs work with the awareness of all potential hazards connected with the installation and maintenance of CATV, FTTP and telephone system facilities, including but not limited to falls, electric shock, falling objects and traffic; uses safety equipment and utilizes safety practices; attends and participates in all designated cooperative safety and training meetings.
- Complies with industry standards, safety rules and regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Abides by the company’s policies and guidelines.
- Places a premium on customer satisfaction; makes every attempt to perpetuate PVT and its subsidiaries positive image in all activities.
- Completes other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of CATV, FTTP and telecommunications equipment and materials; has good understanding of state and federal regulations and standards; familiar with computers. Deal effectively with customers in person or on the telephone; ability to listen to customer needs or complaints; is professional in all circumstances with the customers; communicates effectively orally; excellent customer service skills.
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or GED. Telecommunications training and/or experience, experience with PC’s and wireless/wired routers, specialized related CATV/FTTP training or CATV/FTTP on the job experience is a plus but not required.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid New Mexico state driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy.

Working Conditions:
Exposure to elements such as noise, dust, cold/heat, and traffic or interruptions. Some elements present which make conditions less desirable than usually found in an office. The normal noise level is quiet in the office environment and may be moderate to loud in outside conditions. Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to the continuous exposure to one or more of the elements listed above. Exposed to one element continuously or several elements occasionally, but usually not at the same time.
