What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seaplane Pilot - Beaver position at Pybus Point Lodge?
About us
Come experience Alaska exactly as you dreamed it could be. Our all-inclusive lodge, secluded in an unforgettable bay at the far south edge of Admiralty Island National Monument, is the perfect home base, whether you choose to spend the day on a guided deep-water fishing adventure, following pods of humpback whales, or touring some of the planet’s most impressive waterfalls, glaciers, and ice bergs.

As a remote fishing and adventure lodge, we are looking for an enthusiastic, commercial seaplane rated, pilot to join our our amazing seasonal staff. Under Part 91, you will be flying a beautiful, and well-maintained, DHC-2 Beaver making regular trips between Juneau and Pybus Point Lodge. Being the lodge's main connection to the outside world, the bulk of your flying will be fresh groceries, frozen boxes of fish, luggage and construction material. You will also be shuttling the occasional staff as well as lodge guests, which is why excellent customer service and guest management is a must. Working closely with our in-town shopper and guest services coordinator, food pick-ups and guest interactions make up a large part of the role. For regular guest travel to and from the lodge, we partner with Alaska Seaplanes and Ward Air - the top two seaplane operators in Southeast Alaska.
Pybus Point is known for it's world-class customer service, as you can see with a quick search of our reviews on TripAdvisor and Google. This role plays a big part of that customer experience, and we are just as passionate about our staff experience. You must be passionate about aviation, passionate about Alaska, and most importantly, be helpful and kind in your interactions.
The nature of a remote lodge is unpredictable, and therefore a willingness to roll with the punches and an ability to adapt to the day’s demands are a must. There will be some days with multiple flights, some days with none. During the approximate 4 month season, you will typically fly about 250 total hours. You will also be responsible for tracking all hours as well as helping to manage all aircraft maintenance. Our main AMP is based out of Ketchikan, and we also have relationships with AMPs in Juneau and Petersburg.
Flight Requirements
- Hold a commercial pilot's license and be instrument rated
- Have a commercial seaplane rating
- Have a minimum of 1,000 hours total time
- Have 100 hours in a Beaver
- Have 100 hours on floats
- Have Alaska Time (Preferably Southeast Alaska Time)
- Prefer one season flying commercial experience
*Flight times can be negotiable depending on pilots experience.
The lodge is open for guests from early June to mid-September. The position is seasonal and you will need to be in Alaska from around May 20th to September 15th. A private room, as well as all meals, snacks, soda, coffee, energy drinks, etc. are included, but you would need to get yourself to/from Juneau Alaska before/after the season. You need to be low-drama, passionate about serving others, and focused on being kind and helpful. You will also need to regularly, and safely, be able to lift 75 lbs while moving/bending/loading the plane.
NOTE: This is an EXTREMELY remote lodge that is about 100 miles away from any real services. The only way in/out is either a 1 hr ride by float plane, or a 3 hr boat ride depending on the weather. No shopping mall, no movie theater, no hospital/clinic, no roads, no friend/family visitors, no days in town, limited cell/wifi at times, lots of bears, lots of rain, amazing guests, and an even better staff group. For the right person, this role is amazing, but it is harder than most people can really appreciate.
