- Picking and sorting of pipe, fittings and hardware associated with the building construction trades.
- Sorting and staging fire sprinkler pipe and materials.
- Cleaning and prepping sprinkler pipe for installation.
- Hauling pipe, fittings and hardware from staging areas to installation location.
- Responsible for loading and/or unloading trucks manually or with motorized lifts. The Sprinkler Division Apprentice will not be allowed to operate lifts until properly trained.
- Measuring, cutting and grooving sprinkler pipe to specifications.
- Cutting and drilling penetrations through walls and floors for pipe installation.
- Inspecting tools, cords and ladder/lifts as needed and per Foreman’s direction.
- Assisting with inventory of construction materials on job sights and office/shop areas.
- Maintaining a clean job site that includes tasks like sweeping, picking up loose materials, cleaning and organizing the work area, removing shavings from oiler, replacing threading machine cardboard/plywood, wiping down oil spray or other tasks as needed or directed.
- Reading blueprints.
- Driving company vehicles (½ and ¾ ton pickups).
- Climbing ladders to assist with installation of sprinkler pipe.
- Compliance with any stipulations set by the General contractor enabling onsite installation
- Studying and testing to meet the Apprenticeship Program requirements and time sensitive benchmarks.
- Apprentices may be asked to install larger or specific portions of the sprinkler project under the supervision of a Project Foreman.
- This position could require overnight travel with the possibility of extended stays out of the local area.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel and have a flexible work schedule.
- Team oriented focus.
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at excessive heights.
- Ability to walk and maneuver self around construction job sites and climb ladders.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy pipe daily (10-40 lbs frequently and 50-75 lbs occasionally).
- Bending and squatting frequently and for long periods of time.
- Reaching and performing work above shoulder level frequently and for long periods of time.
- Ability to withstand occasional exposure to hot, cold, and/or inclement weather on job sites.
- Ability to wear PPE such as steel toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glass, safety harnesses, and hard hats occasionally on job sites.
